Driving licence renewal (medical).

Does anyone have any recent experience with renewing medical driving licences? I'm wondering how long it will take. I had to do a paper form rather than online as I needed to update my photograph. I only realised that I had no contact info after I'd sent everything off and I'm eager to get the renewed licence back as mine expired today!

Does anyone have a contact number?

Mine was a bit of a pain when I last renewed it as they wanted the GP to do a (pointless) medical for the first time ever. I can’t remember exactly how long but looking at the valid from date it was about four months. It made claiming my mileage for work impossible during this time which made me cross. You’re legally allowed to drive whilst it’s being renewed. If you google you should find the number easily enough can be a pain to get through though.

I passed my test March 5th and a week after I got a form in the post asking for more information on my medical condition that I had declared at beginning of my test. I returned the form then called dvla medical team and they said there's no time limit on an answer from them. But if they want any more info or they want to speak to gp etc they will contact me first

Thanks. I've just found the s88 info which is, I think, where it says you're allowed to keep driving.

Did you need to get something from your doctor saying you were fit to drive? Not that I plan to get stopped by the police I just wonder whether they'd expect to see some sort of proof that I fit into the s88 category.

They're wonderfully unhelpful by the sounds of it! If the passport office can renew a passport in a few weeks, why can't they do the same with a driving licence.

No I didn’t get anything from my GP but I know I’m fit to drive and was confident in no changes since my last renewal. I don’t think any GP would do that anyway, can barely see one for anything! Plus they would charge… DVLA are just another public service not fit for purpose… I’ve been on a three year restricted license for 18 years and it’s the same every time I renew.

I got mine back! Oddly for 10 years which is the longest I've ever been allowed it.
