Death after electronic defribilliation

Was just wondering. Someone I know has died recently. He had a blood clot and had had a heart attack, he was asleep but somehow they tried to restart his heart three times using electronic defibrillation but he was already dead and had died in his sleep.

Did he know he was having electronic defibrillation? Or because he’d died in his sleep and his heart had stopped was he already asleep and unaware that he’d died so dead already, if that makes sense?

He won't have known. There was an interview recently with an actor, Mark Sheppard, who had a run of cardiac arrests and was shocked back many times. It was absolutely clear that he could not remember anything about the "down time" where his brain wasn't being perfused, and he was being shocked.

In the case of the person you know, from his point of view he died in his sleep. Any and all attempts to resuscitate will have been distressing for any loved ones to watch, but he would have known nothing about it. From his point of view he died peacefully.

I am sorry for your loss.

When he was in cardiac arrest he would not have been perfusing his brain so would have been completely unconscious and unaware of anything that was being done to his body.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It sounds like it would have been a very peaceful death from his perspective, but potentially very distressing for his loved ones. Take care of yourself.
