Movicol experiences - is it supposed to be this awful?!

I have been prescribed Movicol to take for reasons I don't need to go into. Was advised to stay home after drinking it, so I drank it all down first thing this morning.

First of all, my stomach has got so bloated and gassy that I actually had to undo my trousers, and then take them off entirely. I can hear my insides gurgling and rumbling and I've got the most awful stomach cramps - but nothing else has happened.

Is this normal? Is it meant to feel so uncomfortable and horrible? I'm feeling so awful and I wish I'd never actually taken the stuff 😥

There are 3 strengths: standard, half, and paediatric. Half and paediatric are the same strength (basically). The adult one is twice as strong.

That doesn't sound normal side effects for such a low dose. That's the amount you take just to maintain regular bowel habit not to cure severe constipation. You should be drinking masses if water, at least a couple of litres a day and no fizzy drinks. Peppermint tea will also help your symptoms. You'll need to be on 2 sachets for several days.
For severe consisting/ impaction is expect you to be taking a lot more sachets per day than that with loads of water.
By nature your tummy will be uncomfortable as all the poo rehydrate, and softens but persist and it will be over soon. You can add things like chia seed, physillium husks and veg in your diet but kerp up loads of water to help.

I have EDS and have to take 4 laxido sachets a day just to be able to go normally once every 1-2 days. Initially it didn’t seem to work for a week but after that it was brilliant
