Is anyone up? Low fibre diet/colonoscopy advice

Not happy.
Im due to have a colonoscopy on Thursday. To prepare for that I need to be on a low fibre diet. They wanted me to be on it for 4 days. I begged no, please no. It will make me feel SO ill.
I got the hospital to agree that Id do it for 2.

Day one was today and I cant sleep because as predicted......urgh. I doubt you want the details...... (in short - constipation and nausea) I feel hideous and theres absolutely nothing I can do about it as I dont think there is anything on the allowed food list that will make me feel any better. Except water.

I found a scientific study that said 3 days on this diet offered no additional benefit over 1..... so maybe I should just go and have 30mls of calfig (which will help massively) and not admit to it.........
Should I risk it? I dont want to do anything that will jeopardize me having the colonoscopy but equally...... I need some relief and calfig will do that in about 3 hours from when I take it.

Is there anyone awake who can advise?

They want to see your bowel completely empty - when you get on to the bowel prep you will be spending a lot of time on the loo.

So if califig is going to make you go then that is the result they are looking for anyway.

You can still have boiled potatoes and fish
Theres a big list of what u can still have

Iv just spent 4 days on it

I love veg, salad and Fruit and the diet was very boring but i was fine

I didnt eat breakfast on the day of taking the solution as i thought that it would be easier on the toilet

Iv drank lots of water

You can have coffee and some cereal
You can have bovril too

The nausea is maybe from dehydration -
It wont be from not eating veg for 1 day
Drink alot more than you are

What kind of things have you been eating and drinking

You shouldnt be contispated already and you really wouldnt be very ill after 4 days of no veg

calfig will colour the bowel and they wont be able to see it

What have you been eating?
Low fibre meals can be easy and filling, just base them around meat and dairy. A huge steak cooked in butter, with a small side of salad etc.

There is no dietary requirement for fibre (for humans) and if you are having issues, that itself could be the cause and or aggravate it.

It’s not a case of ‘admitting to it.’ It’s your body and choice but I’d personally be pretty miffed if I went through that and then got recalled because of poor bowel prep.

I hate the low residue diet so just do one day on that and then a 48 hour fast before the procedure. Just water and the revolting bowel prep. Yes, I feel pretty spaced but it works well.

Thanks all. I didnt have any calfig in the end........ I waited and waited and eventually at 3am "result" which helped a lot!
The trouble is.......... I had a CT scan last month - that was one day on the diet, bowel prep the next day, CT scan the day after. I was expecting the bowel prep to really clear me out but I really dont think it did. When I went to bed that night and when I woke up on CT morning I felt constipated.
@PeopleAreWeird In theory yes...... I shouldnt feel ill after 4 days on the low fibre diet and eating exactly what it says on the diet sheet.......... but last night I felt horrendous after just one.
@Unabletomitigate Ill watch that ta - looks interesting.

From experience - if you're on a low/no fibre diet, drink more water. More than you could ever imagine a human could consume. At least 4 litres a day. This will keep what is in your digestive tract nice and soft and easy to pass when it does eventually decide to make an appearance.
