Woo moments that I need talking down from

My partner moved into our current house in 2013. He brought it at the time we met and I moved in 2017. Since then funny things have been happening. The thing regardthe biscuit tin I'd love a logical reason why this happened.

My partner felt uneasy when he moved in, lots of strange noises, but I talked him down. The house was being renovated, so it was a bit more exposed to hearing things. Nethertheless, he had the house blessed and he said the house felt calmer and quieter. To be honest I thought it was all in his head. I found it odd though as he doesn't believe anything woo.

When I moved in, the activity started up again but it was not noise, it was more strange happenings. For example, if I was sat downstairs on my phone, the phone would go from dark to bright, so it would be flashing. TI thought it was faulty, never did it any other time. Sat downstairs with partners phone. It did the same. I called out that it was OK, I know they are there and disnt need to show me. My phone never flashed again.

We foster dogs..every single dog, apart from our own dog states at a blank wall in the kitchen. There is literally nothing there, they often bark as well. You can't get them away.

This could be pure coincidence, but when we have joked about it at the dinner table something has happened. Ballons have popped, not one but say 3/4 at a time, christmas decorations have fallen down etc.

Little things like this seem to happen when we have high energy in the house, building work, upset/ stress birthdays etc.

On Sunday my partner and I were hugging and I was crying because my dad died recently. Suddenly a musical biscuit tin on the windowsill started turning and playing its tune. I am glad we both saw it. It wasn't like when you jump near something like that and it turns a bit. It was full on playing. No windows open.

I know an old lady lived in the house before us. She brought up her grandchildren because their mother died young. Our house is a bog standard 1940s semi in North London. I once found a small box in the ceiling/ floor void. It belonged to one of the boys. It had note books, with some disturbing sketches, christmas cards, cheap jewelry and remnants of an early 80s porn mag! I kept it all, felt bad throwing it out, apart from the porn!!

These things don't scare me. Just wondering how many times things like this can happen for it not to be coincidences.

He had his house blessed, of course he believes in woo?!?

Because he does, he's got you looking for every little thing now and thinking it's 'something'.

Loopylambs · 09/04/2024 07:30

I don’t believe in woo either but had strange things happen at my last house. Was going through nasty divorce still living in the same house . X had always parked on drive , I would have to often find somewhere streets away , even when children young. I decided to start parking on drive which made him angry. One evening when he was home first he had parked on drive. Neighbour knocked on door to say my X s car had rolled off drive and was in the road . His cars handbrake was on , doors locked , it had moved off drive but stopped on a slight hill and not crashed into other parked cars in road. No one else at home with access to car keys . We had mice in a cupboard years before , so kind of explains next odd thing. Had some photos of our wedding I thought I would sort after divorce finalised and we were moving. I thought I would throw ones of him away . One of my favourite photos of us both with two now deceased relatives had been torn/ nibbled so that just he was no longer in photo. A friend was once visiting our house to feed our pets while we were away , she said she felt scared and as if someone was in the house so brought her partner with her for the rest of the visits.

Could it be this?

Dogstar78 · 09/04/2024 14:47

@Loopylambs I love a ghost that is on your side! Brilliant. I do believe in suggestion, if you tell someone something is spooky they feel it or did you not say anything to your guest?

OP posts:
CornishPorsche · 09/04/2024 14:49

What do you mean by disturbing sketches?

Dogstar78 · 09/04/2024 14:49

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles lol, I have seen this one before. The dogs are the least of our worries. When they do that we say 'here we go again'. Our dog just does this at the back door. That is because he can see himself and he thinks it's another dog...he isn't the sharpest tool in the box.

OP posts:
GasPanic · 09/04/2024 14:56

They might stare because they hear something scratching on the other side of the wall or internal to it. A bird or maybe a rat/mouse, or a bit of debris falling inside the wall if it is a cavity.

Or it could be that there is a dead body sealed up inside the wall by a serial killer.

monicagellerbing · 09/04/2024 15:10

He 'bought' the house not 'brought' the house

No never said anything to guest until years later when things had happened . Yes the ghost was definitely a friendly one .

Disturbing sketches how?

oakleaffy · 09/04/2024 16:01

There are so often rational explanations for things like this happening- But parents had a 17th C Thatched Cottage that had a ghost(?) who knocked the front door at a specific time.

First time I heard it I thought who is calling so late? And opened the door to thick silence and rain gurgling down the lane.

The knocking was male knuckles- very firm and commanding “I’m here! Let me in!”

The new buyer heard the rapper too.

Never got to the bottom of it .

Alsoi once saw “ Hat man “ at a young person’s hostel I was in as a teenager.

He was silhouetted against the windows, by the street light.
He peered down at me, I pretended to be asleep.

zero Internet then, so when I saw Hat Man mentioned, decades later, and recognised him, I felt really creeped out.

Dogstar78 · 09/04/2024 22:23

@Sauvblanctime just a few degrees on the other side of normal teenage boy stuff. It has been ages since I looked at it. He could have just been watching a horror movie and was doodling...dead bodies, blood dripping. There was some writing that made me feel a bit funny can't remember what it said now. Might have to try and dig it out. It felt like he had hid this little stash in the floorboards and then forgot about. Love it when houses give up these things. Got a bit excited as it was all in a velvet box. Thought I was going to get my 10 mins on antiques road show.

OP posts:
Dogstar78 · 09/04/2024 22:26

@GasPanic obviously it is a dead body. Got to build my case here. There is no way it would be anything exciting like we are sited on an old burial ground.

@oakleaffy that is spooky! I definitely feel some people have a more spiritual energy. I didn't believe in ghosts until I clearly saw one a couple of years ago, while I was at a hotel.

Just before my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Both me and me and mum experienced a dark figure moving through their house. I mentioned it to her as I was so freaked out. She looked shocked and said she had seen it too. He recently died at home. When I am missing him and I am at mums. I sit on his bed and I feel close to him and much calmer. It's a lovely energy.

Eeeee!!! Creepy!

Sauvblanctime · 09/04/2024 22:40

@Dogstar78 do you know the family names?? Could be sitting on a treasure trove of serial killer drawings!

Dogstar78 · 09/04/2024 22:49

@Sauvblanctime I might my own channel 5 programme...or even a series, where a tedious and mildly intriguing tale is spun out over too many episodes.

Unfortunately, I think he just went to the local comp and now lives a quiet life in the home counties. A gorgeous neighbour who has lived in her house since it was built in the late 40s gave me the lowdown. We are only the second occupants of this house. I love listening to all her stories.

Wow....Yes, I definitely agree with you.
We lost our Dad too, to Cancer.

Our Dad died at home, expected.

The knocking ghost... I was so sure it was grandparents from a nearby village passing, and when I asked them, they said ''We'd never call that late- and would ring the bell''.

It was an estate agent who relayed the message to mum and dad {years ago} that the new neighbour also heard knocking.

It was so real, so loud- But no where for anyone to hide.

Have you listened to ''Danny Robbins'' on BBC Radio Sounds ? He has some fascinating stories on there- including ''The Witch Farm'' about Heol Fanog in Wales..I had the book ''Testimony'' years ago, and it scared me.

Worth a listen if you are into that kind of stuff.

your Dad passing...I hope our Dads are in a better place- I had a dream about Dad and it was very soothing- I also had a very vivid dream about a friend's partner who had died of sepsis at home.

They were separated , and he'd phoned her to say he was ill.

She said ''"you are just hungover''...but he wasn't.

He was acutely ill, and no one knew.

He was found on the floor, poor soul.

But...when /I went to stay overnight at his ex's house, I had a very vivid dream.

The doorbell rang, /I answered it, and it was her ex, looking well and fit again..I said ''{Name, you are supposed to be dead?!- he replied, I am, I have just come to tell you I'm OK...I asked what it was like? he said ''I can't tell you {with a smile} and then he said he had to go.

He was wearing a red T shirt, jeans and a brown leather belt.

I also dreamed of Dad who said he's understood things better now, {that he was on the other side}

Could it just be imagination and wishful thinking?

Who knows.

The dark shadow you saw.. that sounds a bit creepy, too.

A friend has seem what she is sure are ''spirit'' animals -

A horse was being schooled early one morning - she looked again, and nothing- no horse or rider.

She was pushing through a hedge on a walk, and heard a horse snort in surprise- but no horse was there

Oh my goodness!!

my dog who never barks just barked sharply and is now whining!!!

I',m all over goosebumps!

Dogstar78 · 10/04/2024 11:22

@oakleaffy love Uncanny, especially when they can debunk. The Witch Farm was great too.

I think our brains try and help us to make sense of things in our dreams and sooth any anxiety and worries. I had a similar dream about Dad, but he walked right past me towards his bedroom and ignored me. I was shouting his name and when I got to the bedroom he wasn't there. I woke my partner with my shouting. I think he was saying I am not coming back because I am OK now, don't worry.

I used to ride and when we lived in Cyprus there was a grave for the horses. Some adults said they saw similar things to what you describe. As kids we were not allowed up there because it was on the cliffs.

I do believe that some people are more attuned to spiritual energy than others, and that some houses have 'vibes' for want of a better word.

oakleaffy · 10/04/2024 13:44

@Dogstar78 A school friend lived in a large and creepy Edwardian house in Chiswick- Her parents were Embassy staff and Orthodox Icons were hung about the hallways-
Her parents would allow sleepovers if one of friend’s older sisters was there and parents were away.

We loved it!

One evening, we heard a terrifying scream from upstairs - Lizzie bolted out onto the upper landing and said she’d seen a ghost in the bathroom.

The three of us went in and sure enough, a grey shadow drifted across a wall.

I looked up and saw a spider web blowing in the Draught from a lightbulb.

No ghost at all, Just a shadow caused by a web on a draughty old house.
A relief, but also a little bit disappointing!
