I do see the irony. A post complaining about people complaining.
We recently had Beryl bikes (like the Boris bikes in London) installed throughout our town. They have already been present in the city we neighbour for a couple of years, so this means you can cycle into the city, or just more locally using an electric bike. You have to use your own helmet. As soon as the first bikes started appearing, you start getting the complaints online from people who have a major issue with them. They're going to get dumped in the river, they're going to get dumped in the street because people can't be arsed to return them, they're a waste of money and always finish off with "I'll never use them". It doesn't occur to them that this might actually be beneficial. People could cycle into the town rather than driving, or to work, or to school, just get out and about where they might have struggled to previously (the bikes are electric so very easy to ride).
People can't really steal them as they have GPS, plus they weigh a ton and you wouldn't be able to charge it. If the battery runs out you can still cycle to the nearest dock or if you can't, the you get charged £10 fee.
Then we get on to the bins. Our council has just introduced what is common in so many other areas of the UK. Fortnightly collections - alternating waste & recycling. We've been given food caddies which we have not previously had.
One post this morning complaining about how they won't use the food caddies as they already compost food waste or give to their dog, but go off on a rant about rats and smelly bins. One person wrote a beautiful response explaining the entire process for food waste.
People just seem to want to complain about everything and give nothing a chance. I don't adore the new bin collection system as we will lose a bit of space in our garden with the new bins, but I can be open minded to consider it might actually be a good thing!
Is it just boredom? I mean, if you're not even planning on using these things then why let them take up any head space?
Hi to anyone from my town who recognises these complaints from our community Facebook page! :)
