Showing off my treat to myself

Lilmaubetden · 07/04/2024 21:53

So, this may be my own doing, but I rarely get presents. When it’s Mother’s Day or birthdays, I tell people ‘don’t worry about me, I don’t want anything’.

And now, everyone is used to not getting me anything.

Thing is, it would be really nice now and again to get treated. I just don’t like to look grabby.

So last week I set out to treat myself. I saw a ring. Fell in love with it and bought it. It also reminds me of someone special.

No, I couldn’t really afford it, I’ll just have to hope nothing bad happens or needs repairing in the next few months.

But it’s mine and I feel treated for once, albeit by myself and I want to show it off (because this is a new feeling for me) and hope people tell me it’s lovely and I deserve it 😂

That is lovely. I love rings. I feel happy that your happy

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 07/04/2024 21:55

It's nice but TBH, what you said, "i hope nothing breaks down next few months." I too hope so as paying interest on borrowed money is not good

Anyway, just being really honest but if makes you happy, then great.

Thecastle1 · 07/04/2024 21:57

Beautiful!!!

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 07/04/2024 21:58

It is a really nice ring, I like the sparkly stone in the middle. Yes, sometimes you do have to treat yourself.

That is gorgeous, I hope it makes you smile every time you wear it.

Yes, it was a bit of a mad moment. I don’t regret it right now, but there’s the potential to, if say, the boiler broke down. So fingers crossed. Our kids are grown up, so no one is going without. I just have to be a bit careful.

So far it has! But I’ve got no one to show it to, hence why I’m here 😂 DH is not at all interested.

It's lovely. Be careful with it because opals are very fragile, and stop telling people you don't want anything! Don't be a martyr.

DreadPirateRobots · 07/04/2024 22:02

I'm glad the ring makes you happy.

That said: knock that martyr "oh don't get me anything" shit off and start telling people what you actually want. Tell them that yes, actually, you've rethought and you would like presents.

Thank you and I'm glad you are not offended. Your follow-up post has put my mind at rest.

Therefore, enjoy your present to yourself and I hope it brings you lots of good vibes and luck

Best wishes

I would be walking about like I was newly engaged showing it off to the postie, shop assistants, colleagues.... 🤣

It really is stunning.

Gladespade · 07/04/2024 22:03

It’s beautiful. I love opal. You sound lovely trying not to put anyone out by asking for anything, of course you deserve a treat. I’m sure nothing will break and you can maybe be a bit careful in other areas to make up for it.

So pretty! I love opals ♥but yes next time please just say “my birthday is coming up, it would mean a lot to me if you booked a table in a restaurant and got me a nice gift. Here are some ideas.” You deserve it!

FoodAnxiety · 07/04/2024 22:07

I love opals. It's stunning. Enjoy it!

And also, stop telling people you don't want anything for birthdays! Let them treat you 😊

I’m on quite the high right now. Let’s hope I don’t go looking for matching earrings next week 😬

No, just joking. I promise I won’t.

It is gorgeous but do start telling people somehow that you wish you hadn’t said the present thing. My mum used to say that and one year we went all out (balloons, flowers, cake, a top she’d always wanted and we all sang her happy birthday) and my god she was soaring! Now we always do a nice get together near her birthday and she never says ‘ah you don’t need to’ anymore!!

dreadisabaddog · 07/04/2024 22:12

I also bought myself a ring recently and I'm so happy to wear it! ❤️

It’s a very special feeling. Although I’m terrified to wear it and keep putting it back in the box lol.
Im very happy for you too!!

I’m going to try. I’ll mention to DH and I’m sure he’ll make an effort if asked. It’s just been 20 years of saying ‘don’t be silly’, so there’s a discomfort about asking for a gift.
Thank you ☺️
