Tesco - can I buy alcohol at 6 am

We are travelling to a sporting event in a few weeks time from Scotland. To save overloading the car, I am going to do a bit of a food shop when Tesco near the venue opens at 6 am. Can you buy alcohol at 6 am in England? I’ve had a google and it seems you can but I’d like to make sure. In Scotland you can’t which is why I am asking. Thanks.

Edited to add, we are there for 5 days. I’m not wanting to drink at 6 am!

Yes, as long as the supermarket has a licence (which most will). The exception is on Sundays when they can't before 10am. But most big supermarkets in England don't open until 10 earliest on Sunday, often 11 (which I think is also different from Scotland.)

Thank you for helping. I’d be shopping on a Thursday morning. In Scotland you can’t buy before 10 am any day of the week.

Wow. I didn't know that!

My local tesco won’t sell alcohol before 8am though I haven’t tried for a few years.

Never knew that 🤷‍♀️

Years ago we tried to buy alcohol on NYD and weren't permitted (we wanted to carry the party on!) however this was a Tesco extra/metro. No idea what the larger stores do.

Yes! I often do a weekly shop early in a morning and it always includes alcohol.

Thanks. I’ll try and phone them to ask.

I often buy alcohol early in the morning (because I shop for non fridge stuff on the way to work when it's quiet and the shops are fully stocked of good offers) and have never been refused, I don't think it's a thing in England.
