I was thinking today of a time in the mid 80s when I forgot my train travel card and was stopped and issued with a fine.
I wrote to the train company with a photo copy of my travel card and asked them to let me off the fine ..they replied saying ' don't do it again .. but they let me off! I was never able to get over the fact they actually let it go , but maybe because I had written to them ? Or someone just took pity on me? ! I was a typical arrogant teenager ( how dare they try to fine me!) but I was still amazed I wasn't made to pay up and it was around 50 pounds , so quite a bit.
I doubt I'd be so lucky these days!! 😂
