Hair Dye Help

I'm naturally dark haired but have loads of grey around my hairline and at my score. Until now, I've been having it dyed at the hairdressers but it's costing a fortune as it grows in so quickly. Today I tried Clairol Nice n Easy semi-permanent, followed the instructions to the letter and it's done absolutely nothing!

I wanted to avoid constantly using permanent dye to minimise the damage and build up but is this the only way I'm going to be able to cover the grey?

My hair is curly so very porous which I believe makes it more difficult for colour to stick. Can anyone recommend a good, at home, dye that covers grey?

A Demi permanent will work better, I get mine from Sallys.

L'Oréal Preference is excellent at covering grey.

That's what I use, I usually leave on 5 mins more than advised and I have to really slap it on thick on the grey areas with a hair dye brush.

Thanks for the replies and recommendations, I'll try a different brand and see how I get on.
