I hate these teeth - self conscious now anyone else?

Hi guys, considering having a go at dating again. I really hate my front teeth though (pic below) Has anyone else had braces as an adult or teeth like mine? It makes me sad when I see a photo of myself with them. I'm trying to embrace them to feel empowered but struggling. Maybe my confidence is low after a bad breakup who knows?! I would rather embrace them than pay thousands to sort them as a)don't have the money and b) they are part of me and I think self acceptance/love is important if you can achieve it. That said has anyone ever got braces as an adult. Or on the flip side dated someone with bad teeth and not given a damn 😂😅

You have lovely teeth and a beautiful smile!

Meganmeccano · 07/04/2024 11:53

Just get them fixed (if you can afford it) and then you'll look better and feel better. But do it for you.

Heliss · 07/04/2024 11:59

If you really hate them, then fix them. There are a lot of imperfections that are hard / impossible to fix, but teeth aren't one of them.

I had mine straightened when I was about 40, for me it was money well spent (in my mid 50s now).

I have slight overlapping and I'm very self conscious of it.
But I also think we can be such harsh critics of ourselves.
I am trying to see mine the way others do ( ie it's absolutely fine and not unattractive) and I think you should too.
BTW your hair is gorgeous.

hotwheelshell · 07/04/2024 12:06

I love your teeth, I can't tell you how bored I am of the current perfect teeth trend.

Filing down canines, composite bonding and Invisalign are making everyone look the same

rainontherooftop · 07/04/2024 12:41

You have a lovely smile, and I'm not just saying that to make you feel better!

Not everyone has to have uniform "turkey teeth" to look attractive.

unbelievablescenes · 07/04/2024 12:58

I'm doing Invisalign and it's worth it I think. You can get deals on groupon etc and pay it up. Fwiw, you have a lovely smile and if I had your teeth I would not have bothered. The shape gives a specific character to your smile that's really endearing. If you don't fix them, this is not going to affect your chances of men finding you attractive one bit, this is def just about how you feel about them not being straight, which I get.

tsmainsqueeze · 07/04/2024 13:06

Your lips are a beautiful shape and your teeth are very white , that's what stands out to me .

Lollygaggle · 07/04/2024 13:17

If you are thinking of braces Invisalign is an expensive way to go and has its limitations.

Go to an orthodontist , rather than a general dentist, who will be able to offer several options and give you the pros and cons of each. It will cost around £150 ish for a consultation and doesn't commit you to anything.

As said before Invisalign is expensive and limited in what it can do , train tracks type of brace is still gold standard. Treatment will start around £2000 upwards depending on how complex the problem is. I suspect your lower teeth would need treatment too to get the "bite" correct . Most orthodontists will offer payment plans .

The oldest patient I had who had braces was 90 !

Hello OP, first thing I want to say is your overall smile looks beautiful and radiant.

I had adult braces (invisalign) and it was one of the best things i’ve done. I was self conscious about it before and would always smile with pursed lips and cover my mouth when laughing. It feels so good to give people a big cheesy grin now.

I believe correcting your teeth could also be seen as an act of self care and improvement , it doesn’t have to be a negative act.

Lollygaggle · 07/04/2024 13:27

I may be wrong but the front six teeth on the top have also been veneered or crowned as very different shape and quite opaque looking as well.

Deadringer · 07/04/2024 13:28

To me your teeth look clean, white and evenly sized, not Hollywood perfect, but nice and natural and pretty. If you really want to get them done go for it, all of my dc had braces including one who was an adult at the time. She had invisalign at first but ended up with traintracks as it took longer than expected for her teeth to move. My other dd had braces for years and still isnt happy with her teeth, her issues were quite complex though. There are downsides to moving teeth, and you have to wear a retainer for life. Again, I think your teeth are lovely and suit your face perfectly.

Honestly, you’ve got pretty nice teeth. At 41, though, I do have Invisalign. Not finished yet but I’m already much more confident!

Edited

I have had whitening and a tiny bit of composite bonding. But Invisalign got them 90% of the way there. This was finishing touches but it looks really good without them too.

This is a truthful response, if you hadn't have pointed out that your teeth aren't perfectly straight I wouldn't have even noticed. I think you have a lovely smile and the shape and fullness of your lips are gorgeous and that's all I noticed at first

This.

And to add to that, every single person I've ever really fancied had some "imperfection".

It's what makes someones appearance unique. It's be very boring if everyone had perfect teeth, the perfect nose etc.

There are TV shows now where I struggle to tell people apart because they've all had the expensive dentistry, the nose job, chin tuck, the same makeup etc.

Uniqueness is good, and for everyone who's gone Ewe because I've got weird ears, there's someone else who likes them.

Gladespade · 07/04/2024 13:54

My teeth were worse than yours and I had adult braces. It was worth it as there was quite a bit of over crowding and I was very self conscious. I paid for the braces gradually throughout the treatment, so the money side wasn’t so bad.
i went through similar to you, trying to convince myself that they were okay, and several dentists said nice things like ‘it would be boring if we all looked the same’, but the one who really helped me was more straightforward and said ‘nope, we can do something about those’. I must reiterate that they were worse than yours and you have a lovely smile, but I suspect you will not be able to convince yourself of that now you have started thinking otherwise.

Blackcats7 · 07/04/2024 13:59

Your teeth are fine. When I saw the title I thought perhaps you had got those awful “turkey teeth” which practically glow in the dark and were regretting them. Yours are much nicer.

They just look like normal/unremarkable teeth to me Confused

Mind you I saw an ad on Facebook for Temu last night and they are actually selling teeth. I shit you not! 🤣🤣🤣

Suziethefluffpig · 07/04/2024 14:06

I think your teeth are nice! They look healthy what can’t be said of many people’s teeth (including mine, sadly).

I don’t think you have anything to worry about!

I’ve never had braces but know people who have had them as adults. Frankly, I could t notice any difference in their smile but perhaps I wasn’t paying enough attention.

Btw, your hair looks beautiful too!

xyz111 · 07/04/2024 14:15

I had Invisalign (finished last year). I'm really glad I did as it sorted my teeth right out.

soupfiend · 07/04/2024 14:32

I think young people today dont see many people these days with dentures/false teeth.

I grew up with most older people in my life having false teeth and to me, the 'turkey teeth' or Hollywood teeth look like false teeth.

Ive nver found them attractive or 'perfect'.

unsync · 07/04/2024 14:44

They look fine to me. I only really notice teeth if they are missing, stained, not clean or rotten. Yours are clean and bright, you've obviously got good dental hygiene which is what I imagine most people look for.

IntermittentFarting · 07/04/2024 14:49

Any imperfection in your teeth is barely noticeable, if it is at all.
What I saw in that photo was a healthy, friendly-looking, attractive, youthful woman with lovely hair.

OriginalUsername2 · 07/04/2024 14:56

I plan to get adult braces if I can ever afford it. Yours are cuter though! They’re symmetrical and a nice size. If someone didn’t like you for those teeth they would be incredibly shallow!

If you do it, do it for yourself.
