I was
i was supporting Abba, 8 years of age and it was an exciting time to be watching Eurovision Song contest, and probably a little late by the time the winners were announced.

Top score then was 5!

I was certainly watching it.
I've watched every one since 1967.

I remember the conductor dressed as Napoleon. The song that came second was pretty good too.

ButtockUp · 06/04/2024 22:37

Yes, I remember it well.

I haven't watched in years as I cannot stand the 'look at me , I'm so radically different' brigade.

Floisme · 06/04/2024 22:39

I remember that evening very well - went round to a friend's house to watch it and ended up snogging her brother. I'm not sure if she ever knew.

I do remember it, albeit vaguely. I remember thinking that they were singing about a train station. I wasn't overly impressed. The music was nice enough, but the train driver costumes weren't as good as the Sgt Pepper ones.

I was very young 😂

I remember watching Abba and my dad saying that theirs was the best song by far!! I was 10.

UnctuousUnicorns · 11/05/2024 19:12

Can't remember, I was three. Probably tucked up in bed like all good children should be. 🛌

Spottedshell · 11/05/2024 19:14

Nope, not quite born- was it actually on this date?

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 11/05/2024 19:19

It was 3 weeks before my birth. Pregnant DM watched alone as DF was working. It was Germany and DF was in the army. Recently saw ABBA Voyage for my 50th. Couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate.

It was 6th April just checked, I know my mum was heavily pregnant and I’m late April birthday.

IWishThatYouWouldStay · 11/05/2024 19:21

I was only a couple of weeks old but my mum still says Waterloo always reminds her of dancing around with me in her arms ☺️

If Google is reliable I would have looked something like this.

Yes! I was 13 and I thought Agnetha with her long blonde hair and blue shiny knickerbockers was the loveliest thing I had ever seen.

ilovesooty · 11/05/2024 19:30

Yes. I've seen every contest since 1968.

Yep, same here!

SapatSea · 11/05/2024 19:37

Yes I watched it. All the girsl at primary school loved Agnetha's crocheted cap and all the grannies and mums were kept busy in the coming weeks recreating it. Absolute mental crush to but them at the local Church Summer Fair!

eggplant16 · 11/05/2024 19:37

Yes, recall feeling slightly bored.

Oh dear!

So I wasn't even three yet then. Definitely fast asleep!

IShaggedSomeMingers · 11/05/2024 20:11

Yes. I thought they were fantastic.

DrJonesIpresume · 11/05/2024 20:19

Yes, I saw it. I think I was slightly underwhelmed, but Eurovision was a big thing back then. Very different from now.

There were only three tv channels in those days, and not many watched BBC2, so getting on for half the tv-watching population would have been tuned in.

typicaltuesdaynight · 11/05/2024 20:19

In my mothers womb

Norugratsatall · 11/05/2024 20:25

I was also 10 but I can't really remember much of it. Am sure we will have watched it as we did every year.

TiramisuTastesDreamy · 11/05/2024 20:27

Also waiting to make my entrance into the world a few weeks later. I love how Waterloo is the same age as me 😂 inspired the compilation of a birthday playlist for next month 🤗
