I have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I have struggled with my weight all my life. Not severely over weight nor underweight,I am a size 10-12 currently. Did you notice a considerable weight gain or any, after being diagnosed with under active thyroid?

Have you noticed it's harder to lose weight now?

For me it was one of the biggest initial symptoms. I had just given birth but started gaining weight, rather than losing it. I ended up being diagnosed with Hashimotos disease and once I started thyroxine, the weight fell off really quickly without any real effort.

I don’t struggle to maintain my weight now (well, no more than most I guess) but then my thyroid levels are checked every 12 weeks so I’m super on top of it.

I had hyperthyroidism brought about by Graves' disease. They nuked my thyroid which is now underactive. As long as the thyroxine levels are normal, theoretically it shouldn't make much difference. I do gain more easily and lose more slowly, but I don't know how much is thyroid and how much is age.

I am male for what it's worth. Similarly suffering the battle of the bulge, but i think in my case, it is more down to too much beer and cake than it is thyroid.
