Shocked at the term "elderly" for a 56 year old.

Just watching a crime documentary, and the murderer was a 56 year old woman. The Cop talking to the camera, was saying how he couldn't believe that the murderer turned out to be an elderly lady. WTF? I'm 54 and don't feel "elderly" whatsoever. Whilst my own kids are adults, I know plenty of people in their 50's who still have kids at school!

What age do you think constitutes elderly? For me, I'd say 70+ (whilst acknowledging that many people that age are perfectly fit, well and able).

If 56 is elderly, I must be crumbly!

Stop using the word ' elderly'.it is ageist.

Geriatric sounds far worse as it implies decline; old isn’t particularly nice either.

Absolutely! And when I get to 70, I shall regard 80 as elderly.

I have always seen it like this 0-30 young 30-60 middle age 60+ old age.

I'm 64 and I am not elderly, I won't be retiring for another 2 years and I am fit, active and lucky to be very healthy. My husband is retired but I still wouldn't class him as elderly. Elderly suggests frail. My 90yo mum and 97yo dad are definitely elderly.
