Rainbows girl guides advice

Hi, just wanted some advice. My daughter has been going to rainbows since January and has her first day trip next weekend but I’m unsure what we have to do.
Is it appropriate to message the leader during half term to ask these questions?
Do we drop our child at the train station or at the church?
do I need to pack her a lunch?
does she need spending money?
If anyone has and knowledge or advice that would be great.

First check any letters you have received about the trip... it should be on there

Otherwise... ask. (Unless you have a meeting before then?)

The standard Rainbows consent form usually has all that information on for the specific trip when you sign it? But if you're unsure then just ask - I don't really see why it's a problem?

They should have had this to you in writing at least, but then again I had a poor experience with Rainbows too with lack of communication. I’d just ask if you haven’t been given the information already

That’s the thing we had to book and pay for the trip online so I’ve not received any consent forms for the trip and nothings been mentioned at the sessions. I just didn’t know if it might considered rude to message the leader during half term but if not then I’ll message them tomorrow.

Do you have a meeting before the trip? They have official consent forms they should be using

WhatsMyEmail · 05/04/2024 21:42

We definitely have proper branded consent forms to complete with emergency contact details etc along with date/time the trip starts and ends. Ours usually has the trip timings/locations at the top then the consent at the bottom to rip off and return.

I'd definitely be messaging the leader asking if you've missed completing a form and to confirm all the details. I'd also be checking if there's a parent's group (WhatsApp/FB etc) as if they do you'd be worth getting on it. That's what our Beavers & Cubs leaders use to notify they've arrived safely/running late home etc.

No the local schools don’t return until the 15th of April so there’s no rainbows sessions. Until the 15th.

Thank you for the advice I’ll definitely message tomorrow and find out the details.

Definitely message and say you don’t know what’s going on with the trip. Add a token apology for interrupting half term. But if you don’t know how things are supposed to work for the trip, odds on other parents aren’t sure either. If people go to the wrong place or don’t bring lunch when they are meant to it will cause chaos for the leaders. There needs to be another message sent out about this trip.

I’m a leader with Rainbows and while we do put all this info on the consent form I’m also a realist and understand that this section of the form gets misplaced. So message the leader, I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with it and would reply asap, holidays or not. If I was busy I might take a day or two
but it wouldn’t annoy me that you had asked.

budgiegirl · 06/04/2024 18:24

As a cub leader, I'm fine with being contacted during the holidays. If you don't have another meeting before the trip, then there's even more reason to ask at this point.

Just one thing though - do you have an online system where you can make payments, see info etc? Perhaps the info is on there somewhere? If not, just message/call.

Abbyant · 06/04/2024 18:28

Thank you everyone for the advice, I messaged them today and they informed they’d be sending all the information by email on Monday. So panic over.
