Any tips for anxiety? Operation tomorrow morning and I’m stressing

As the title really. I’m going in for an hernia repair in the morning and I’m freaking the fuck out. I’m scared about the op itself, the pain afterwards, not being able to do anything, the whole shebang.

DH is in work until midnight, any tips for how I can keep calm and distracted this evening? I’m so tempted to just call and cancel but it’s just delaying the inevitable! Ridiculously I’ve got lots of chronic illnesses and live in pain 24/7 and have had many operations so far but I’m just really focussing on this one and how bad it’s going to be.

im just rambling really, I can’t sleep or watch tv or focus on anything.

Look up and listen to some guided meditation (for sleep and relaxation) on YouTube they can really help with both.

This is a bit sciency but put: activate the parasympathic nervous system into youtube and do some of the exercises proposed. Works a treat and is employed by shrinks all over the world

I’ll give both of those a go, I just need to get through tonight and adrenaline will get me through tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for your responses, it’s really nice of you both.

Really sorry you are alone and feeling so anxious.
Anxiety is horrible.
Would some kind of exercise or activity help?
Followed by warm bath, candles soft music ? Audio books, puzzles something to keep you mind occupied?
You will be fine, the nurses are usually very kind and reassuring.
My friend recently had this op and her recovery was much quicker than expected, she was feeling so much better within a week ( though still needing to be careful and rest ) and completely back to normal within a month.
Good luck x

A Xanax tablet.

Best of luck and hope all goes well.

Thanks so much everyone, it went really well and I was home the same day. I’m in a lot of pain but that’s to be expected. Had a full on panic attack waiting in the anaesthetic room but everyone was lovely to me.
