Haven holiday - things you wouldn't think to pack

We are going on our first Haven holiday this year.

I was just wondering what people would recommend packing that you wouldn't necessarily think of, even for a self catering holiday! 🙂There's an essential packing list on their site, however, I'm sure people will have their own suggestions too.

Tin opener. I've always found it's either missing, or crap.

ElphabaFlies · 05/04/2024 17:39

Check if towels are included. If they are, it's usually one hand and one bath per person plus a tea towel. We usually pack a bath mat, couple of extra tea towels, hand towel for the bathroom, beach towels.

Soap
Washing up liquid
Foil/food bags
Sharp knife
Dishcloth
Bottle opener
Loo roll (usually get one!)
Warm fleece for the mornings and evenings

Oven gloves, pizza cutter !

OhmygodDont · 05/04/2024 17:45

Be prepared that an 8birth isn’t equipped to actually feed 8 people, there will not be 8 coffee cups 😂 oh and no matter the size of the caravan the tables sit 4 people.

I know that wasn’t stuff to take but always amuses me.

Always remember baby wipes and toilet roll, tin opener, all the normal just like tea towels and what not. You won’t have a hoover just a brush and no mops these days either.

OhmygodDont · 05/04/2024 17:46

Oh and I always take my own frying pan not their weird half pan half frying half wok type pans they have 😂 and yes my own good Sharp knife

Givemethesworrrrd · 05/04/2024 17:46

Great suggestions I wouldn't have thought about things like a tin opener! Same with the sharp knife, I would have assumed they would be OK. We have done self catering before but not a haven holiday. Glad I asked now 😀

Just hitch your entire kitchen and bathroom + towels, sheets and pillows to the back of your car and bring it in to your accommodation.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 05/04/2024 17:48

Tin opener
Tea towels
Cling film/tin foil
Loo roll
Wet wipes
Cleaning supplies
Towels

Go to a local supermarket for food, the on site store is so expensive.

Shouldbedoing · 05/04/2024 17:48

I always take 2 swimming costumes because if you swim more than once a day you have to put a cold wet cossie on

Givemethesworrrrd · 05/04/2024 17:48

@quizzys 😂it's a tempting idea! Especially after @OhmygodDont comment on the frying pan!

Shopping wise once you get your caravan number you can book a Tesco/asda/ocardo delivery straight to your caravan.

mitogoshi · 05/04/2024 17:49

If you plan to cook take decent sized pans - the ones that they supply are tiny and poor quality. Decent knife, chopping board, slow/multi cooker I find useful.

RuLu · 05/04/2024 17:50

Squash! (The drink variety, not vegetable!)

BettyShagter · 05/04/2024 17:51

Air fryer! 😂😂

OhmygodDont · 05/04/2024 17:51

Tends to only be one baking sheet.

The longer I sit here the more I think of 😂

I've just come off a caravan holiday and they'd only deliver to reception.

No bother though, DH just drove up to meet him.

Givemethesworrrrd · 05/04/2024 17:52

@OhmygodDont, my mind is blown about the shopping delivery I thought we would have to pack it all up and take it with us!

OhmygodDont · 05/04/2024 17:53

Here’s the closest imagine I can find to the frying pan.

ahh yeah I’ve always been to sites that have allowed delivery but reception booked delivery is still better than having to do a whole shop 😅

100%, and will save room in the car.

Glad you have a great sense of humour! Have a lovely time. 😊

I always forget oil for cooking and bin bags

CupOfTeaNoSugar · 05/04/2024 17:57

We took a couple of proper mugs - the cups on offer were those weird shaped ones that don’t feel nice to hold when you’re having your morning tea/coffee🤣

It’s the little things in life!

We also took tea towels, sponges, a good sharp knife, extra loo roll, beach towels (they provided towels but we wanted bigger ones for swimming/beach) & a sandwich toaster.
My dh laughed but admitted it was actually very handy.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 05/04/2024 17:59

A pot drainer!

CupOfTeaNoSugar · 05/04/2024 17:59

Oh and a collapsible laundry basket - we went for a week and it was nice being able to throw dirty laundry in there instead of piles in the floor (2 young dcs inc a baby at the time so lots of laundry!) and it was all in one place for when we got home.

BettyOBarley · 05/04/2024 17:59

Our handheld hoover always comes in really handy on a caravan holiday!

Also a box / bag to dump all the shoes in by the door
