How do I ask for this haircut for my boys?

My boys want typical boyband 'floppy' hair cuts, nice and long on top coming over their foreheads and then short round the sides but whenever we go the barber and I try and describe this they hack too much length off the top and often leave a half fringe sitting halfway on their forehead which looks awful. They are now really reluctant to get their haircut. I have tried a few barbers so am thinking it's my description at fault! Any help much appreciated!

Can’t you show them a picture?

Sirzy · 05/04/2024 11:48

Find a photo and show that

Put a selection of photos of the style on your phone. Also are you seeing that barber produce that style, some are very limited in what they cut.

Go to a hairdressers that cuts children's hair rather than a barbers shop. And take a picture with you.

I agree with going to a hairdresser rather than a barber as some barbers just want to do the same thing over and over. My son always asks our hairdresser for 'long floppy hair like a skater dude' and she understands what he means.

Scissor cut that's long on top, take a reference picture and avoid any barbers that are clipper happy/refuse to do scissor cuts.

WhateverMate · 05/04/2024 11:53

Eh?

Surely everyone just shows a photo on their phone?

This is all the fashion with teenage boys atm. Go to a Turkish barber, they see teens all the time and will know what you want x

buswankerz · 05/04/2024 11:59

It's a tapered fade you're asking for

Hairdressers .. NOT a barbers.. we found them the best with my Grandsons.. a local one. Doesn't have to be a big well known expensive town one.

MilkandKids · 05/04/2024 12:01

Thanks all, very helpful advice and it didn't occur to me to show a picture!

I've just taken my lad to the barbers. He wanted a similar style. I said short back and sides (1) left long on top. I had a photo and one of the barbers had the hairstyle my lad wants so I pointed and said like that. Very nice job as well.
