Use rug doctor (first time) and now room smells

Have a light colour carpet, and with two dc, accidental spills the carpet really need a thorough clean. Hired the rug doctor machine, used it for the first time, and all seemed well. After returning the machine, I realised there were patches that were still wet (I believe that is my mistake and didn't think to go other the whole area again with water spray). The carpet finally felt completely dry (48 hours later); however today, there is a funky smell in the room. I'm beginning to think it might be damp? I've ordered baking soda to use tonight. I've opened windows to hopefully help, but am worried I've ruined a beautiful carpet.
Please tell me it'll be ok 😩

It's probably still just a bit damp. Open doors/ windows etc to let air circulate.

Thank you! I've opened the windows, and hoping that helps.

Was the machine dry and did you use fresh water/soap mix?

I have a Bissell upholstery cleaner and if it hasn’t been left out to properly dry before storing it, it can STINK.

@FirstFallopians I hired it from b&q, and it looked clean (but heavily used- except the water collection tank). I'm wondering whether I sprayed too much water in areas, and they've taken longer to dry so the smell?
