Question about community pantries

Not asking for me but if you’re on benefits can you go to a community pantry or is it just for if you’ve got no income/no money left. there’s one in the local area where you can get a number of items for a few quid.

There is usually a membership fee, but if you contact them directly they tend to be pretty supportive x

You have to be referred to the one round here….,the Health Visitor referred one of my younger neighbours

There's loads of good info here www.yourlocalpantry.co.uk/what-is-a-pantry/

No need for a referral, anyone can join

Temporaryname158 · 04/04/2024 21:53

No need for a referral at mine, you just have to live in a certain postcode.

it has been a lifesaver!

PoochiesPinkEars · 04/04/2024 21:54

Our local one, anyone can turn up and buy a whole bag for a few quid.
It's a food waste reduction thing not a poverty thing, so no need to be referred or anything.
Sounds like it might vary from place to place. Can you just message your local one and ask?.

They are all different and all have different rules.
They usually have a facebook page at least, with details on there.

ours is a large cupboard outside a community centre.

Absolutely anyone can open the doors and take what they want.

I’m part of my local one and work full time. There’s no income restrictions. The only issue is that it’s during the day on 2 days a week. I have to try and go when i wfh but sometimes miss the small window.

They all have slightly different rules.
The one that has opened near us recently, you definitely can go to - even if working.
