Pescatarian lunch

There's a big cheese plate and a homemade sponge with fruit and cream for dessert. What should the main dish be?

  1. Turkish red lentil soup with lemon
  2. Mushrooms on sourdough toast (are vegetarians tired of mushrooms for lunch?)
  3. Big salad nicoise (I make a really delicious anchovy dressing for this so it's more luxurious than it sounds)
  4. Roasted spiced cauliflower with crispy chickpeas and herby Greek yogurt

Or something else? I'm so indecisive.

Big salad nicoise

Theres no fish?

Is there meant to be fish or are you just pointing out fish is an option but meat isnt?

Salad nicoise is really good if done really correctly and by that I mean confit cooking the raw tuna steak. Serve the potatoes and green beans warm in it, really good toms, really good black olives and then of course your nice dressing

The roasted cauliflower is a good idea if spiced nicely, perhaps you could serve that with salmon or prawns, good ones. With garliky green beans or something

There's anchovy. The pescatarians are more like vegetarians who don't object to fish but not really into fish as a meat course iyswim. No shellfish.

All sounds delicious!

DailyFailstinks · 04/04/2024 22:44

I’d enjoy any of that except the cauliflower - it seems to be everywhere since the vegans have taken over all of the vegetarian options!

Tintackedsea · 04/04/2024 23:04

Oh my goodness! I'd eat all of that! My ideal lunch(es)!

You could do a mini buffet and do a bit of it all? Loads more work but very impressive and delicious!

greeneggsandhamhocks · 05/04/2024 00:23

DailyFail good point, I really object to veganising everything.

And thanks for the nice comments, that's made me feel more confident ☺️

We eat a lot of Turkish lentil soup as my husband is from that part of the world but it's a starter, you'd expect another dish after the soup I think. Maybe do some substantial sides to go with it?

For the cauliflower, what would you serve with this? Rice, bread?

All sounds very tasty

greeneggsandhamhocks · 05/04/2024 12:29

Sleeping I love that soup! I usually make it from a recipe 'based on' the Turkish version, so not sure how authentic it is. I sometimes poach a bit of white fish in it for a main but these friends lean more vegetarian so that's out.

There will be bread, butter, cheese, olives etc.

I tend to avoid carby sides so may need to rethink a little, add something. Nothing will be low calorie (loads of olive oil, butter, cream, cheese etc) but I sometimes forget about carbs.
