What does an appendicitis feel like?

I have had diarrhoea for over 72 hours with feelings of nauseous.

I also have pain on the right side of my abdomen. That has been dull, but this evening has been more painful.

Could it be my appendix?

It could be. Get it checked out. Mine was more a dull ache rather than an extreme pain. The pain was there what ever I did, lying down, walking, sitting….it was still there. I drove myself to the GP thinking I just had wind of a stomach bug, my heart rate was really high (120bpm) so my gp sent me straight to hospital where they conformed I needed my appendix out. I wasn’t sick at all and the pain was manageable but annoying.

Thank you, I'm dehydrated too by now.

I thought I had trapped wind. Felt bloated and out of sorts. Was painful to touch when doctor palpated and I did swear when he tried but otherwise ok. I was never in agony like I hear some people are. Sat in A and E fairly reasonably reading and looking at the various quiz shows.
Good luck!

Pain on the right side of the abdomen could also be gallstones. I had awful nausea the last time I had an attack, vomited for 5 days.

topaz653 · 04/04/2024 19:54

Gallbladder was taken out 2 years ago @FionnulaTheCooler

How are you today? Did you go to A&E ?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/04/2024 09:58

How are you OP?
agree with PP, mine was a dull ache, never very painful.
i felt like i had flu- hot, extremely fatigued, didn’t want to eat anything.

topaz653 · 05/04/2024 10:07

I have a doctors appointment this afternoon, 111 said to get a doctors appointment, so have.

Just got like a dull pain atm. Still got diarrhoea too.

Usually painful until it bursts - then the pain goes and that is the really dangerous time.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/04/2024 11:03

@topaz653 weird question, can you fart?
apparently you can’t fart if you have appendicitis…
though I might go and google that ‘fact’

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/04/2024 11:05

Yep, that’s correct!
I couldn’t fart but I’m not very windy anyway (vegetarian and non dairy!) but my teenage son was very helpful in demonstrating farting on demand in case I hadn’t understood the concept.

You need to go to the emergency department now. Beware that once your appendix ruptured you could feel less pain for a while but then quickly develop sepsis and you could die. Please don’t waste precious time.

An appendicitis is hard to diagnose because so many experience it differently.

My daughter was 15 years old and normally a drama queen. I knew she was properly ill because she went quiet and could not move due the pain. The pain was central. Called 111 who said to attend the out of hours doctor next to the hospital. My husband took her by car and whilst being seen by the doctor she started vomiting. He gave my husband a letter and they went to A&E . Very quickly seen and she had her appendix removed about 18 hours after first saying she was unwell.

Believe she had a grumbling appendix for 2 years prior. GP had been treating her for IBS. Need for IBS meds disappeared once appendix removed.

It could be appendicitis. Hopefully doctors appointment will clear things up for you. A test they do to check is pushing onto the appendix (so, right side of your tummy) and as they lift their hand up slowly, if it hurts when they're coming off then that is often an indication of your appendix having troubles.
I had appendicitis in 2017 and it started as a really dull pain in the middle of my tummy then moved to a really painful sharper pain on the right side of my tummy.
