Is there anyone local who can offer some advice, DS had an interview at BAE Kent Im taking him and have four hours to fill before pick up. What's good in the area to visit/do/ any good drop-in cafes/pilates/ leisure centres/sights to fill a couple of hours and anywhere to avoid? I want to make the most of my day off! thanks

Rochester in Kent? There's the castle & cathedral & the historic high street. All very scenic. You can cross the bridge into Strood & see the submarine moored in the river (you can't go on board). If you like walking, part of the Saxon Shoreway path goes through Chatham, Rochester & Gillingham.

You can visit the castle, cathedral, have lunch, theres another castle opposite Rochester across the river, cant remember what its called. There are some nice shops there.

Rochester is lovely. Very historic. Big Charles Dickens associations (Great Expectations is partly set here) and the museum is interesting. The rest of the Medway area not so much.

And just on the offchance you have Huguenot ancestry, there is a Huguenot resource centre there.
