Would you judge me badly?

Started a new job in Jan. For the past month I've been run down with a cough, then over the Easter weekend I got tonsillitis. I was due back on Wednesday and thought I was ok and didn't feel to bad physically but I just couldn't function properly at work and towards the end of the day I burst into tears and then went home. Planning to call in sick today and tomorrow. Is that awful? I don't want them to think I'm a flake.

Why would anyone judge you badly? You're sick. It happens to all of us. I'd be more likely to judge you badly if you went in and made me sick.

I'd be wondering if it will affect your employment - are you still in your probationary period?

Willmafrockfit · 04/04/2024 08:49

no, you are not a flake
you take the time you need
it is odd days off that go against people, particularly mondays

StrongCoffeeWithMilk · 04/04/2024 08:52

@Chipandcheese no. I've been with the organisation for years but this is a new team (who didn't know me before January)

I would call in for the rest of the week and go back properly rested on Monday.

It would have been clear by the state of you that you’re no snowflake, also you definitely don’t want to go spreading germs around.

Get well soon

It is possible for your colleagues to be both worried and caring about your health, and also a bit grumpy if they have to pick up your workload. Try not to worry about their reaction; focus on getting better.

MuggleMe · 04/04/2024 09:03

Going in was a good move if you're worried. They'll have seen for themselves you don't call in for nothing.

I hate when people make/expect employees to work sick.

My whole household ends up bedridden (some of us have bad immune systems) then we all lose wages rather then if one person rested and didnt infect a whole office 😂😂 its very shortsighted to lose 1 employee for a week, then a whole office over a month.

/rant over haha

Rest up you need it :)
