Why am I getting a severe headache when I erm ‘reach a finale’

I keep getting the worst pain in my head when I’m about to come. I won’t spell it the other way, gives me the ick.

And it’s usually only when I masturbate, which isn’t often but I don’t want to stop doing that, the pain is so severe it makes me want to be sick.

I don’t have anything fun just for me don’t say I have to stop that as well?

How are you feeling generally, do you have any sinus issues, or ear problems at the moment, a cold or hayfever?

Other things to consider might be blood pressure.

Rowenaravenclawsdiadem · 04/04/2024 07:14

No I feel fine, I mean I’m getting old and I know I’m in perimenopause.

It is a thing apparently, caused by increasing blood pressure before and during the moment. Is it at the base of your head at the back? That's where blood pressure headaches are.

No it starts at the front in my forehead.

I also have this, plus I get really nauseous. I’ve stopped having sex as a result because I feel so crap immediately after :(

PoochiesPinkEars · 04/04/2024 07:28

Sounds hormonal, there is one contraceptive pill I can't take because it does that to me (can't remember which one it's been a long time).
So maybe it is a really really really unfortunate perimenopause symptom. 😭
Presumably there is some vascular mechanism behind the symptom, but for me it was hormonal in cause.

Are you a doctor?
Because it doesn't sound like it

VestibuleVirgin · 04/04/2024 07:30

Vasodilation; physiological response

PoochiesPinkEars · 04/04/2024 07:30

Maybe if it doesn't happen during sex with partner it's because you're more physically active then, making a difference to blood flow? <Ponders>

FelicityBennett · 04/04/2024 07:33

There is a condition called benign coital headache,You get a headache during sex . Usually at the base of your head bilaterally.
You should see your doctor though because there can be other conditions that you need to be evaluated for.

BigPandaTinyDragon · 04/04/2024 07:47

I used to get this when I was with someone who turned out to be very bad news. As soon as I came it was absolutely blinding, so painful. It was as if my body knew what my head hadn’t yet worked out.

Is there anything worrying or stressing you?

buxxcut · 04/04/2024 08:06

Sure it's a sign of inter-cranial hypertension. See a doctor.

Parsley1234 · 04/04/2024 08:10

Yes I had this once it was unbearable. My friend sex therapist told me to take paracetamol before sex which I did and it worked thank god it last maybe 2/3 week’s unbelievably painful

MoisturiseYourMoose · 04/04/2024 08:16

I’ve had 2 bouts of this this year and 1 several years ago. Each lasts several weeks. And bout 2 landed me in hospital.

I didn’t have a lumbar puncture so nobody can be absolutely sure but I was diagnosed with RCVS and prescribed nimodipine. Nobody knows why it’s only happening on approaching orgasm/orgasm though.

There are post-coital headaches though. Which I think are less severe than the thunderclaps I’ve had. You should get it checked out though.

WonderingAboutBabies · 04/04/2024 09:23

Frontal headaches - could be a migraine? I tend to get migraines if I'm stressed and it hurts to look from side to side or up and down. Definitely go see a GP and an optician as well.

JenniferD582 · 05/04/2024 01:10

Definitely don’t stop. I hope this goes away for you asap. You deserve to enjoy that bit of self care for you
