Seabrook potato crisps

As far as I know, this Bradford firm doesn't make any other similar snack foods, just crisps. They've been crinkle cut for decades but I remember when they weren't. Anyhoo, what is your favourite Seabrook flavour...?

Mine is Pickled Onion. A little antisocial but very tasty and tangy. The Spring Onion ones are a bit overpowering for me. Smoky Bacon also good.

They've recently started doing a chipstick type snack in ham fland cheese flavour - bright pink big bag. Blooming delicious!

Of the regular Seabrooks crisps my favourites are prawn cocktail and Canadian ham - and I don't remember when they were ever not crinkly!

I've never been keen on the Canadian Ham. They seem to have an odd chemical smell!

You need to dip these in alioli. What they were designed for

Oh man, I grew up on these. I still miss the tomato ketchup flavoured ones.

Worcestershire sauce for me.

I used to live in Yorkshire and every year we'd get to visit the Seabrooks factory in Bradford with the Girl Guides.

They used to have two runs of machinery in the factory so they could run two flavours at any one time. It was amazing and we all used to fill our hats with warm freshly made crinkle cut crisps and eat them on the coach on the way home.

Botanica · 03/04/2024 19:42

Was so excited by the thread forgot to comment on my favourite flavours.

This would be thirty or so years ago so not even sure if these are still available but:
Smokey Bacon
Tomato Sauce
Cheesy (different from Cheese and Onion)
Worcestershire Sauce

UsedtogodownNevins · 03/04/2024 20:16

The Worcester sauce flavour. They pack a proper punch.

NCfor24 · 03/04/2024 20:24

We eat Seabrook having got into them due to having a gluten free child. The kids like cheese and onion, and ready salted so I could get a 6 pack of prawn cocktail knowing I'd get to eat them all. My daughter has now discovered they're her favourite too 😲 😢

For those mentioning Tayto crisps...we'd never heard of them until a holiday to Ireland and we went to Tayto Park theme park (now changed name, maybe Emerald Park??).... a theme park built around a crisp factory! It was a bit random to do the factory tour, but broke up the day of queuing and rides, and is a family core memory!

Used to love love love Seabrook crisps. Spring onion and also salt and vinegar.

But I think they've changed the recipe because they're nowhere near as nice tasting as they once were.
So I don't bother anymore. If I'm going to eat junk and empty calories it needs to taste exactly right or what's the point.

I agree. They're definitely not as good as they used to be. I remember as a child them being my absolute favourite but being quite difficult to source even though I lived near Bradford.

Bought a six pack of salt and vinegar at the weekend with great excitement and 'yuck'. They tasted slightly stale. Reminded me of baked crisps which are always a bit dry and not as nice as fried.

Will stick with the Lidl and Aldi own brands from now on.

Oh I'd forgotten about those!! Possibly my favourite crisp flavour of all time!!

Seabrook were always my favourite crisps. They are also one of the cheapest brands. However, I stopped buying them after I read they were cooked in some kind of oil that is supposedly not good for you. Maybe they've changed the oil they are cooked in these days but it really put me off them.

Isn’t it just sunflower oil like most other crisp brands?

FairisleFairy · 03/04/2024 20:46

Or possibly a mix with rapeseed since the war in Ukraine

pastabest · 03/04/2024 21:57

They are gluten free = win in our house.

I've fond memories of the pickled onion ones from childhood but the crisp eaters in our house these days prefer beef, S&V and C&O.

I can no longer look at a crisp without putting on a lb sadly.

I am Tayto curious though, as have heard all good things but have never spotted one in the wild to try.

Can occasionally find Tayto crisps in our local home bargains so check there if you have one nearby. They are amazing wish they were more readily available in England, so much flavour 😋

Copperoliverbear · 03/04/2024 22:52

Beef x

MardyBigBum · 03/04/2024 22:56

Cheese and onion Seabrooks are my all time favourite crisp.

SquitMcJit · 03/04/2024 23:00

Lamb and mint. Sadly not available anymore?

SquitMcJit · 03/04/2024 23:01

Am really hoping someone will come and correct me and tell me where to find them 😃

Toooldforthis36 · 03/04/2024 23:01

greengreyblue · 03/04/2024 18:28

Always ready salted in any crisp.

Correct.

PickAChew · 03/04/2024 23:01

My intro to Seabrook was the tandoori chicken in the early 80s.

I only like ready salted crisps, these days, but not the Seabrook ones.

They were lush.

Same here. I don't know why GF crisps are so hard to come by.

What??? I used to drive past when we went to the supermarket and, as a crisp fiend, always used to ask my mum if I could go inside or work there when I was older 😂. This trip would have blown my mind!

TheTecknician · 04/04/2024 09:12

Admittedly I rarely buy crisps so I can't comment on the quality of any of them now. But pickled onion were definitely good ones. I remember the Tomato Sauce Seabrooks but they weren't as nice as the KP tomato crisps in a pink bag.

Are Golden Wonder still about ?

I tried Seabrook crisps a couple of years ago. I was distinctly underwhelmed. They were crusty like, but tasted stale. Not very nice. Tayto crisps, on the other hand, are on another level. I have seen them in Asda, in the world food section.
