How often do you clean these bits?

The bits you see when you open your windows/door?

Is it a regular activity, or one where you open the window and think urgh.

For me it’s the urgh option.

ShowOfHands · 03/04/2024 12:37

I open some windows every day and others, at least weekly so give them a wipe over as necessary. Probably weekly. They're never dirty really as I keep on top of it.

Hummusanddipdip · 03/04/2024 12:37

In 8 years of having my own home I've done it once, last summer but I was on a major window cleaning binge.

ImWatching · 03/04/2024 12:38

I’m guilty of thinking “they need doing” every time I see them, but then don’t get around to it for several more weeks. There is so much other stuff that needs doing!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 03/04/2024 12:39

I have never cleaned those bits.

Bearpawk · 03/04/2024 12:39

The bits in the inside of the frame that you can only see when open? Never.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 03/04/2024 12:46

Well this is mostly making me feel better. Mine are pretty revolting. The windows are crap and I can only assume let dust/dirt in because some are very rarely opened (big window in dc room fir example) yet still gross.

Hoppinggreen · 03/04/2024 12:50

I dont clean those bits but only becasue I dont want to kill the spiders rather than because I cant be arsed

Mischance · 03/04/2024 12:50

Never, never, just never. What the eye does not see ........... life is just too short.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/04/2024 12:53

Might use a brush to sweep but never wash them CBA 😆

JanetareyouokareyouokJanet · 03/04/2024 12:53

Yeah I’m a fellow heathen. Mine need a scrub.

FunkyMonks · 03/04/2024 12:55

Never have I cleaned them I give the window glass a weekly clean and if the surrounding frame was dirty a wipe but never would I open and clean the bits I don't see.

BaronessBomburst · 03/04/2024 12:57

I hoover mine fairly regularly in the summer, and wipe them over with a cloth.
In the winter, never.

WaitingforCheese · 03/04/2024 12:59

I cleaned out the back door the other day, for some reason it’s much dirtier that the front (garden?). Anywya it took bloody ages and loads of crud came from under the frame. It looks better.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 03/04/2024 13:00

When I think urgh but in reality I have such low standards that it’s very rare I think that even when they’re minging!

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 03/04/2024 13:04

@Hoppinggreen that is one of the reasons that mine are rarely clean. Or, if I do clean them, I don't do it very well!

I clean windows twice a year, nothing special - soapy water and rinse. The rain rinses and water streaks off.

BertieBotts · 03/04/2024 13:09

I don't because ladybirds hibernate in there and there are ridiculous numbers of them.

Reugny · 03/04/2024 13:10

Every time I remember which means some windows bits are cleaner than the others.

Oddly I clean around the doors more often because I see them more and was taught to wipe the top of doors as a teen..

Mrsjayy · 03/04/2024 13:10

I do my back door regularly it's always manky with the dog the rest meh I've no idea.

Tatas · 03/04/2024 13:11

Probably bimonthly but that's only because I clean the inside of the windows on that frequency, and it's easy to give them a wipe to keep them clean. They're never super dirty because they get wiped so often - I do it mainly because of the cats getting marks all over the internal windows 😂

dudsville · 03/04/2024 13:11

In winter our windows are at least cracked open overnight, but not during the day, so I may not see that part regularly, but I do have to do mould maintanance at least twice a winter so I do them then. In summer they tend to be ok - which I know becuase I see them in the daylight!

Mrsjayy · 03/04/2024 13:12

Actually I do hoover the front door gap every so often rough cast always seems to settle in it.

Bjorkdidit · 03/04/2024 13:47

Well I've tried a couple of times in the 18 years we've lived in this house but they didn't really look any cleaner, so I've not bothered again.

I think we'll just get new doors and windows instead Grin

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 03/04/2024 13:52

When they need painting but with being wood I don't have the same crevices so any dust blows in the house every time they are opened (not often, old draughty house gets aired without)
