What would you have?

Planning on doing a dinner party with my sister to celebrate the fact that we’re both early 70s vintage 😁

We want the lot - prawn cocktail with luminous pink marie rose sauce.

Vol au vents!

Black forest gateau! (Or sherry trifle? Blancmange! 😆)

What’s best for mains?

Accompanied by Mateus rose or Liebfraumilch (“beloved lady’s milk! 😱) or a lovely beaujolais?

Help us relive our youth MN!

Pizza served with jacket potato

Blue nun - to drink (along with your choices)

cheese and pineapple hedgehog

blamange - haven’t had one for years.

trifle - it’s got to be the one out of the packet!

Lasagne served with a jacket potato and garlic bread (thanks DM 😂)

Definitely a Black Forest gateau or angel delight in a a wine glass.

You could have a teeny glass of concentrated orange juice to start - 80s staple ❤️

Rocknrollstar · 03/04/2024 09:54

Chicken escalope with bacon, pineapple and baked banana

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 03/04/2024 09:56

Babycham!!

JudyBlumesBlubber · 03/04/2024 09:56

Prawn cocktail or Parma/melon balls
Chicken supreme or lasagne/chips/garlic bread mentioned above
Black Forest gateau or baked Alaska!

Whatineed · 03/04/2024 09:58

Chicken kiev with Duchess potatoes and minted peas.

Ariela · 03/04/2024 10:00

How about a Fondue?
Or Chicken Kiev?

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 03/04/2024 10:02

Beef Wellington and those piped potatoes

buswankerz · 03/04/2024 10:02

You need cheese and pickles on cocktail sticks, blue nun for the absolute basics.

Black Forest gateau or vienetta for dessert.

Bobje · 03/04/2024 10:07

@CissOff 😆 at the triple carbs!

These are all brilliant.
Am going to have to a 7 course meal now, just to include all everything suggested 😅

Whitebait with bread & butter, and a slice of lemon 🍋 in a little metal gizmo that nips your fingers.

Veal Cordon Bleu with green beans tied together in small bundles that splash your best frock with melted butter when you cut them open.

Cheese course, probably Dairylea triangles and Ritz crackers.

Pineapple Romanoff, followed by Irish coffee in a scaldingly hot glass.

SnowFrogJelly · 03/04/2024 10:26

Chicken Kiev

Yum

x2boys · 03/04/2024 10:27

I was born in 1973 ,I remember my mum made a curry that contained sultanas ???
And a very bland spaghetti bolognaise ,she was quite a good cook and tried to be adventurous with varying degrees of success 🤣

Chicken kiev with Duchess potatoes and minted peas.

That actually sounds really nice !

JustToBeMe · 03/04/2024 10:29

As young teen I used to love Vesta Paella... it was the first thing I learnt to'cook' Grin
Chow mein and beef curry I've seen in our local supermarket, but can't seem to get the Paella nowdays Grin

Half an avocado filled with vinaigrette.

Angel delight?

I still treat myself to this sometimes! 😆

PinkTonic · 03/04/2024 10:31

You need home made Melba toast that shatters into a thousand crumbs when you try to add butter or pate.

TopHatToe · 03/04/2024 10:32

The avacado with vinaigrette I meant! 🥑

sewingstockings · 03/04/2024 10:33

I have seen everything I would mention is already on the list apart from mandarin cheesecake. You have got to have the hedgehog no party was complete in the 1970s without them or on a plate.
