Toddlers skin spots

Is it normal for children to come out in random spots? We’ve had this problem since June last year although June was quite bad she was getting spots that were growing and then leaving scars on her skin and the dermatologist said it just looked like impetigo from infected eczema (Although by time we got the dermatologist appointment her skin had cleared so she was just going off pictures) Since then she still keep getting random spots on her body they’re not getting any bigger which is good but I don’t know what’s causing them. They’re mainly on her front or back hardly on her legs or arms never had any on her face/neck. (More on her tummy but odd time on her back) We took her to the doctors in February again and she said it’s viral rash. But that went now then she got some in March they went now got these yesterday quite a lot this time.

I’ll attach some photos, they are also not itchy or irritating her. (It’s definitely not chicken pox)
im going to be ringing doctors in morning but wanted to know if anyone has had similar with there kids.

They look like molluscum contagiosum. They are a total pain to get rid of, they are vital and they rarely can do anything about them.

We used allsorts of different remedies but ended up buying 'Aderma Cytelium Drying Lotion Spray' from amazon, it's a very gentle cream that dried each spot and they cleared up within days.

Lauren8642 · 03/04/2024 07:54

@Blahblarblehbleh1 ive been reading about that and not sure if it is that. I know it’s hard to see on the photo but her spots are more red with a blister almost like a chicken pox spot I’ll post a better close up of one. And they don’t spread rapidly it’s kind of they all go then a few days later they come back in different places but still only really on her tummy 🤷🏼‍♀️ such a guessing game we’ll see what the doctors say today, if I can get an appointment …

Hi

I have just posted a very similar thread. Did you get any answers? My little girl has the exact same issue and the spots are the exact same as the ones your little one has.

not really got answers from the GP but it started after her MMR booster and wondering if it’s linked.

@KE9003 oh bless her no still no answer. She’ll still getting new ones pop up every month or so. Rang doctors about a month ago and they said it looks like that might just be how her skin reacts to things because of her eczema (she doesn’t have eczema bad only in her creases when it gets hot think they’re just using that as an excuse) or they told me to keep a food diary but she eats the same stuff near enough every week so I’m not messing around doing that.
He said because they’re not bothering her and she’s not poorly there’s nothing they can do and if she’s still got them by time she’s 5 they’ll refer her to dermatologist. So another 2 years! Absolute joke I think 🙄
I hope you get better answers then I have x

Sorry I know this post hasn’t been commented on in a while but I was wondering if you have any updates @Lauren8642 or @KE9003?

my daughter has the same spots, she is school age. She was diagnosed with dermatitis on her hands a couple of month ago but these new spots have appeared recently.

it’s definitely not molluscum, both of my children have had molluscum and none of the above photos look like it.

TheSilenceisDeafening · 05/07/2024 23:13

Could it be folliculitis? Like an infection of the hair follicles due to a bacteria or yeast infection.

Lauren8642 · 05/07/2024 23:14

@Ronaldosui Hey, still no answer unfortunately she had some more pop up again last month and I’m just fed up so rang the doctors again the gp who I spoke to over the phone on the Friday looked at photos said it looks like that moluscum but prescribed a antibiotic cream then on the Monday I saw a different doctor face to face and she said she’s unsure what it was basically I asked to be referred to dermatologist and she’s referred her this was nearly 5 weeks ago still waiting but funnily enough she hasn’t had any more come up since that last time so who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi

No we are still no further forward either. She still has at least 1 new one pop up every couple of days. Ours started exactly 1 week after her MMR booster and iv always wonder if it’s related in anyway.

Doctors don’t know what it is and just fob us off as she is well in herself and they don’t bother her. I’m just at a loss now with what else to do. I might ask for to be referred to a dermatologist also but I think wait lists are crazy.

Lauren8642 · 06/07/2024 11:43

@KE9003 doctors just want to sound like they know what it is rather than admitting they don’t know what it is. I would get referred if I was you then least you’re on the list

Hey, my son has very similar spots and has done since only 1/2 months old. He’s now 9 months and have seen the GP numerous times with no answers. I find the only thing that helps is calomine lotion. His are mainly on his feet but do appear randomly on other body parts. Asking for a referral to dermatology on next visit to the GP. Have you ever noticed any spots on your children’s feet at all?

KE9003 · 31/08/2024 16:52

Hi

No she never has any on her feet. She tends to get them on her stomach, bum and arms.

We finally have a referral to paediatrics next month to check for allergies etc. She’s still getting them but still not bothering her.

Someone above had mentioned folliculitus and I looked into that as the spots looked very similar but GP wasn’t convinced but I still think it could be that. My wee one had a lot of dark body hair and it’s the only thing iv seen so far that resembles the spots although we have tried all the tips to keep it at bay and it doesn’t make a difference.

Hope you manage to get some answers soon!

Ferg1995 · 31/08/2024 21:17

Thanks for replying! Such a mystery, his spots look the exact same as the ones yous have posted but like I said they are mainly his feet, I’ve been thinking that its a condition called acropustulosis but after seeing this post now I’m not convinced as they look so similar and he gets them randomly on other body parts too. If you get any clarity I’d be grateful if you keep us updated!! Hope we can get to the bottom of it.

Hopefully yous get to the bottom of it in December. I did notice that my sons got a lot worse whilst we were on holiday this year too!

Alisonmac77 · 18/02/2025 23:06

Hi any update in this? My wee boy gets these too

83dj83 · 27/03/2025 19:49

Hi @Lauren8642 I would love to know if you have an update. I am currently stuck in the same situation with my daughter. Had spots coming and going for 6 months now. Doctor has tried fungal creams, antibiotic cream for impetigo , antibiotics as a well. I'm now waiting for the doctor to contact me on what we do next. It's just so strange.

Wildywondrous · 27/03/2025 20:02

They look like molluscum, both my dd's had them, the Dr told me that it was a virus which takes months to go and that on the whole they don't cause a problem but occasionally their immune system triggers an ott response which is exactly what happened.
The majority of them stayed small but every few weeks one would become red and inflamed around the area.
A couple of them did get quite big and have scarred.

Blahblarblehbleh1 · 27/03/2025 22:06

I know I said it before but I honestly can't recommend Aderma Cytelium Drying Lotion Spray enough for people still struggling with this.. We tried so many things and this worked miracles. It dried each spot and then they just didn't appear again. I think I paid about £12, but it was worth every penny.

83dj83 · 28/03/2025 07:13

At the very start I thought it was molluscum. But when I look at the pictures it doesn't look like the same kinda spots. They don't have the blister looking spots more of a small pimple white head in the middle of a red area. They have like a life cycle start of as plain red spots when they first come, they then get larger and then at the end a very small white head appears and then they go. Doctor hasn't mentioned that it could be that either. Although how long it is going on for does kinda co inside with molluscum. I am gonna try that cream see if we get anywhere. Thank you 🥰

Bella5C · 15/04/2025 18:05

my daughter has these as well and as far as I can tell, she’s now 18months old, she does have quite sensitive skin. I’ve ended up on MN after an extensive and unhelpful google search to what is causing it and her spots are like PPs. Just trying to get an idea of whether or not to go to doctors or just try the spray mentioned above? She’s completely well in herself otherwise but she has maybe about 6/7 spots dotted around randomly.

MyNavyLemur · 18/04/2025 19:25

Hey all! My 1 year old has had 4 of these over the last week. Did anyone ever get to the bottom of these? I’m wondering if it’s from sweating and blocked follicles, basically causing pimples?

83dj83 · 19/04/2025 18:32

The spray hasn't worked for us unfortunately. We are now thinking it might be some sort of berry allergy ( although the spots don't look, like your typical allergy reaction) . But have only just started the removal of berries so it's hard to know yet. The spots just go in a cycle . So you think what you are doing is working and then they just reappear.

Bella5C · 24/04/2025 15:56

Sorry, it turned out the next day, it was chicken pox 🥴

Shcrlx · 08/03/2026 19:32

Hi sorry I know this is an old post but wondering if anyone got any answers from the doctors or dermatologists on this? My daughter has the same. Thanks
