Selling silver

I really need to make some cash and am thinking of selling silver. I have no gold!

I have so many gifts that I never wear - much of it probably costume jewellery which I'll try on Vinted. But some items are silver I'm pretty sure. How can I tell?

Some items are handcrafted so perhaps without any obvious stamps. I don't want to appear hopeful in a shop then have to cart it all away again!

Its not really worth much in jewellery quantities.

About 50x less than gold for scrap IIRC.

The exception might be if you have something by a famous jeweller, something very old or something set with good precious stones. With silver items they tend to have hallmarks so with a bit of effort you can find out what year they are from.

You can run a magnet over stuff as a first pass to estimate whether something is silver or not.

Thank you. That's disappointing - I have about 4 heavy items of silver I was hoping to sell.

Thanks for the advice.
