I wasn't sure where to post this so I'm really sorry if it offends anyone.

Last night I had a terrible dream. I can't even say what it was about but it was basically a copy of a recent soap storyline involving murder and hiding the body.

It involved one of my family though and I've woke up feeling really sad and shaken.

I know it's just a dream and what happened in it would 100% NEVER happen, but I can't get it out my mind. It was horrific!

I've never had a dream affect me so much.

Has anyone ever experienced this? If so what helped you to get the thoughts out of your head?

I’ve had horrible dreams that have stuck with me for a day or two, they can really affect your mood, they’re worse than nightmares because you don’t wake up quickly being scared or frightened. Don’t dwell on it too much and hopefully it will slowly slip out of your thoughts by lunchtime.

My advice would be to consider what the person in your dream means to you - what do they represent and what are their characteristics? Sometimes a dram is you working out your fear of losing that, and if that being buried away in yourself. So if they represent joy and creativity, you are dreaming about killing off the joy and creativity in your life; if they represent security, you are feeling insecure etc. your brain is just using a vivid representation from something you've seen (& never underestimate the power of TV, films, online stuff and literature) to make sense of how you're feeling.
I know many will think it's rubbish but I'm a strong believer in the psychology of dreams and they often mean something other than the literal....although sometimes they are about fear of being naked in the supermarket!

But also, as the PP said, please don't dwell on it too much. It's not real, it didn't happen and it certainly isn't you thinking dark thoughts!
