Do you find it hard to switch off when you're not at work

Hey,

I work in a job that theoretically I should be able to put my out of office on and work be covered.

But whilst I'm off queries go unanswered until my return or forwarded to me in my absence.

When I return I come back to sometimes hundreds of emails.

I don't get set time to catch up, so it'll then take me a week or more to get on top of things again.

I never feel able to enjoy my time off because I dread what I'm coming back to.

I'm off for a week now and I've set myself the challenge of not logging in and only dealing with things on my return.

Does anyone else feel unable to switch off for time off, or is it just me?

Me too. I find myself logging in, and I feel very uncomfortable if I've had emails that I would normally respond to straight away, even though I have an out of office message set.

I also don't like the thought of returning with no idea what's waiting for me!

I completely forget work the minute I finish my working day

I'd always check. Maybe once a day. I earn enough that it doesn't feel like too much of a hardship to keep on top of a couple of emails.

I can switch off when away for a few days, but in the week my mind is on the job as soon as l get out of bed.

Not at all. I couldnt care less about work outside of working hours and can't understand people who do. Unless its a medical or social services field, maybe. Or your name's above the door because you own the company. Otherwise, what for? If you became incapacitated and suddenly couldn't work you'd be swiftly replaced and all those emails/tasks would get done -without you.
