DD 17 has been invited to go away with her friend to a place that they own in this
country. They are leaving tonight and staying there for 2 nights. I assume also feeding her. Suddenly feeling awful, should I have offered money? Or at least bought a nice bottle of something as a thank you? What would u do?

Definitely get a bottle, some chocolates /dessert etc as a thank you.

CantFindTheBeat · 01/04/2024 20:37

It's fine, OP.

It's 2 nights. When she gets dropped back, give them a bottle of wine and say thank you.

DD is 17 so I'd say prompt her to do any gift giving rather than you or make sure she's got enough money to offer to pay her own way while there if needed.

Offer them some money when she gets back, or maybe a nice afternoon tea gift voucher as a thankyou. Just something to acknowledge your thanks is all that's needed to show appreciation.

TheOccupier · 01/04/2024 21:28

She should really have taken a gift with her but if she can give/send something as soon as she comes back that will do - unless she can get to a shop to buy something that she can give her hosts when she leaves.

Absolutely not money. Text your dd and say "would you like me to get a present for X's mum and dad from you? If so, do they drink wine?"

TimeandMotion · 01/04/2024 21:36

She should really have taken a gift with her such as chocolates or wine bought by you on her behalf for her to take. Or she could have baked a cake or something for them all to share while there

But will be fine to hand over a bottle or chocs after the event.
