No sound with WhatsApp notifications

I am in despair. About two years ago I stopped getting notifications with WhatsApp messages. I assumed it was my phone being faulty and just put up with it. I recently got a new phone and am experiencing the same thing. I’ve searched online , listening to you tube etc and all my settings seem to be correct. Can anyone help me?!! Occasionally it will ping, but mostly not. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it.

My android started doing that too recently. I solved it today by changing the notification noise (in the app) to a sound that wasn't the default one. No idea why the default one wasn't making the noise it was supposed to.

I haven’t connected this phone to the car Bluetooth yet.

You can change/edit each chat's notifications so it could be worth looking.

Open a chat, click on the name of person/group, go to wallpaper & sounds and see what the setting is in there.

Annoying you may have to do each one but it might be worth a try!

I didn’t know that. I’ve changed each person’s tone so we’ll see if that works. Thanks.

Did you manage to sort the issue with not receiving WhatsApp notifications? I am having the same problem. I have tried resetting the phone, reinstalling the app but nothing is working. If WhatsApp is open I receive notifications but if closed I don't, so it seems as though the problem is with the Background App Refresh. Apple tell me to contact WhatsApp and WhatsApp tell me to contact Apple.

Why do you want sound? Listening to other people's notifications is so annoying! My phone is permanently set to silent for everything, which is perfect. It means that my phone is of use to me, but I'm not it's slave.

What a strange question, off the top of my head without considering too deeply I'm going to say she wants a sound so she knows that she has a message

I would like notifications so I am aware I have a new message rather than having to sign in to the app to find I have messages.

Just to add, there is no new message alert on the Home Screen either, I have to open the app and go in to chat to check for new messages.
