We've had an issue with the washing machine/sink and have taken this pipe off, cleared a blocked which seems to have solved issue but it now will not screw back together. I don't know what is going wrong.

It is the washing machine drain going into under sink trap. All pieces are here it just won't connect when screwing it in.

Can anyone help?

Looks cross-threaded to me.

What does that mean?

Oh I had to replace a waste trap last year and yeah screwing it in was a lesson in frustration management. I finally learned that you need something called 'plumbers putty' and thread tape. You put those on and it screws together nicely and gives a watertight seal.

There seems to be black stuff inside the bit of the trap where this hose goes in. Is that the old tape do you think? Stopping this going in ?

Okay fished the black thing out. I was a rubber seal that goes on washing machine end hose.

Just incase anyone else does this in future 😆

Thanks to whoever said about the tape. That made me pull the black thing out

Quite possibly. The whole waste trap is less than £10 in B&Q might be easier to get new and a pot of putty/roll of tape.

I had a similar problem with my sink a few months ago. I thought I fixed the blockage, but when it came time to reassemble, nothing seemed to fit right. I ended up calling a plumbing services company for help. They were amazing and fixed everything in no time. The plumber showed me a trick to align the pieces correctly before tightening them, which made all the difference. If it keeps giving you trouble, it might be worth calling in a pro.
