I realised I don't like Saturday night TV or magazine shows

I hardly watch normally streamed TV anymore. My friend had on Saturday night TV and I realised I found it depressing. I also find shows like This Morning depressing. I used to enjoy this sort of thing in my 20s. Is it an age thing?

Well yeah - vacuous, formulaic programming tends to be pretty boring

BeaRF75 · 31/03/2024 21:40

I haven't watched Saturday night TV for decades. It's grim.

boredybored · 31/03/2024 21:42

Don't watch it then , I never have .
It's not very stimulating is it!?

Churchview · 31/03/2024 21:53

Saturday night TV hasn't changed since I was a kid in the 1970s.

We used to have The Two Ronnies, The Generation Game quiz show rubbish, Michael Parkinson talk show rubbish, films that had been shown a hundred times and Dad's Army.

Now it's Ant and Dec, Michael McIntyre quiz show rubbish, Jonathan Ross/Graham Norton talk show rubbish, films that have been shown a hundred times and repeats of Dad's Army.

How Casualty is still on is beyond me.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 31/03/2024 21:58

I agree but DD loves it so we watch it with her.

lightinthebox · 31/03/2024 22:08

We watched Gladiators but we rarely watch live tv anymore. I’ll never understand the appeal of people like Michael McIntyre.

Obviously those shows attract enough viewers to keep making them though.

Bluevelvetsofa · 31/03/2024 22:36

It’s an insult to the intelligence of the average person.

Newsenmum · 31/03/2024 22:37

It’s absolutely dire and you lose brain cells watching it, I agree!

chocolatefordays · 31/03/2024 22:44

Argh I can't stand them! Ant and dec, Michael whatever his name is.. etc.. my DH would happily watch them every Saturday night but I can't bare them! All my Colleagues talk about them on Monday Morning and I'm always the odd one out Confused

Newsenmum · 31/03/2024 22:52

I have NEVER understood the appeal of ant and dec. Nothing funny about them at all and the second they start ‘being funny’ I feel like I’m going stupid.

Newsenmum · 31/03/2024 22:54

I used to quite like mccintire when he was younger as found him funny and inoffensive. Less so these days .

MermaidMummy06 · 31/03/2024 23:08

Our Aus tv is similar. We used to have good free to air tv, though. Quality has really gone down. It's all cheap reality or renovation shows or movies on repeat. They've even destroyed our local Grand designs & an amazing historical reno show by mashing them together into an embarrassing steaming pile of poo, so no one watches those now, either.

Everyone just streams now. Although most of that is rubbish, too.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 31/03/2024 23:52

Yep, after a while they both become as boring as shit.

ParrotPirouette · 31/03/2024 23:58

Some of us just don’t watch it OP, I havn’t seen a reality tv show since the first season of Big Brother in 1999 (the first series was innovative!)
I’ve never seen the Ant and Dec show. I saw a ‘news’ report a little while ago that it is finishing after 20 years 😮 too late to start now.
I watch scripted proper drama and films. I’m currently watching Oscar nominated films. Just turn off, it’s liberating.

bellamountain · 01/04/2024 00:08

Watched Ant and Dec Takeaway last night for the first time ever, my god what an utter load of rubbish! I thought it would be something fun to watch with my 8 year old, jeez it was horrendous. He was desperate to switch off and I let him put Ninja Turtles on.

I don't mind Ant and Dec either but that show is atrocious, it must appeal to extremely basic people.

Henmania1 · 01/04/2024 00:11

Haven’t watched Saturday night tv since Pop Idol glory days, Gareth Gates, Will Young, Darius, begging to be allowed to vote!

ATerrorofLeftovers · 01/04/2024 00:13

No one likes this kind of telly, do they? I’ve never been sure who it’s aimed at as nobody admits to liking it! It’s dire. Except for the Two Ronnies but I think that stopped about 40 years ago. There’s been nothing good since then.

justasking111 · 01/04/2024 00:16

I resent paying for a BBC licence now because I never watch those channels.
