Anyone got experience of adult tongue-tie release?

I've been having Myofunctional therapy since September and am due to have tongue tie release in a few weeks. Issues were to do with breathing incorrectly leading to poor sleep, anxiety etc. Feel quite nervous about it - has anyone got any experience? Thanks

Hi there. Similar situation here, did you get this done in the end? I'm worried of the pain afterwards! TIA

our dd had a tounge tie removed at 18 no issues not much pain

Thanks @somewhereovertherain it would be for me, as an adult. It's more complicated as you get older I gather as it's not as simple as babies .

A friend had this done (it always comes up in breastfeeding chats!) as an adult and she said it was obviously a lot tougher than a baby’s recovery and she did have to take the week off work but it has massively been worth it. She said her oral hygiene has really improved for example. I didn’t even know she couldn’t clear food from her teeth!

Thank you @fashionqueen0123 that's really useful.

I'm interested in the myofunctional therapy, has it helped? Was it online or in person? How long have they recommended you do it? Sorry, a lot of questions!

She was 18 and right at the end

my brother also had a mid tounge tie done in his 40s

I have a tongue tie and bite my tongue while I'm asleep but I don't know if the two are related! I'm too scared to do anything about it as it sounds positively painful.

@somewhereovertherain I'm so sorry I thought you said 18m, did they have any pain for weeks/ days afterwards? This would be in conjunction with another surgery elsewhere in my mouth while under GA so I will already be dealing with a lot recovery wise.

Hiya, the MFT was really great but I didn't go ahead with the tongue release. I may in future. I just didn't want to take the risk personally. I started imagining if things went wrong and I am a single parent etc and any nerve damage would be awful and feel self inflicted. There are many positive accounts of the difference it has made so don't let my decision influence yours!
