Did you tip your cleaner over Easter?

Hi,

My cleaner is amazing! However I didn't even think you had to give a bonus at Easter? (I do at Xmas)

Did you? She was definitely expecting it 😬 now I feel bad that I didn't even know that tipping at Easter was a thing (she worked the Thursday not the bank hols)

Thank you x

I got mine a large Lindor Easter egg.

I don't tip at Christmas either but give her a decent Christmas hamper.

Yes I got myself a crème egg at the corner shop as a special Thankyou for all my hard work.

just kidding

I no longer have a cleaner but only tipped at Christmas. My own efforts are very much half hearted I don’t even deserve chocolate for the effort I put it. Perhaps I will thank my robot hoovers.

Rudolftheorange · 31/03/2024 21:55

No, but I do at Christmas (because we are Christian) and Eid (because they are Muslim).

Londonscallingme · 31/03/2024 21:56

What makes you think she expected it? In answer to your question, no, igt wouldn’t occur to me to top at Easter. Owe do give a bonus at Christmas though.

NewName24 · 31/03/2024 22:07

No, I didn't.
It isn't "a thing"

I didn't even think you had to give a bonus at Easter?
that will be because you don't.

Cookerhood · 31/03/2024 22:10

I've had cleaners for about 30 years on & off & it's never occurred to me to give an Easter bonus, or egg, or anything else!

DogsAreBetterThanHusbands · 01/04/2024 00:04

The only reason I can think of for giving a bonus at Easter is because they are working on a bank holiday, either the Easter Friday or the Easter Monday. (Assuming cleaners don't work Sundays anyway.) My cleaner came on Thursday (her usual day) and I gave her an egg. But, some cleaning companies expect their staff to work on Easter Friday and Easter Monday, and don't pay them time and a half or double time so that is why some people would give them a bonus. I think if your cleaner is working on Good Friday or Easter Monday, then it should be their choice to work or not (not everyone celebrates Easter) if you are in the UK. If they chose to work (or you haven't notified them they're not working, then I would definitely would give them something extra (cash/Prosecco/chocolates).

They would be perfectly in their rights to say if you want me to work on a bank holiday, I will need £XX extra. But this should be agreed on advance.

My cleaner has actually been away for over a month (family crisis, expecting her back next week) so this hasn't arisen, but no I wouldn't even have thought about tipping at Easter. To be honest I may be a little put off my the lack of acknowledgement of the tip and small gift we gave her for Christmas, but no - I wouldn't have considered it for Easter.

Tinytigertail · 01/04/2024 09:10

No! My cleaner gets an extra weeks money at Christmas, but it wouldn't even occur to me to tip at Easter

CountryShepherd · 01/04/2024 09:17

No but I did make her a huge birthday cake recently.

AnneElliott · 01/04/2024 09:45

No but I bought her an Easter egg. I tip at Christmas

Sunshineandpinkclouds · 01/04/2024 09:48

No just tip at Christmas. Brought her back some nice chocolate from our skiing trip at half-term as she always brings us nice treats back from Bulgaria.

Wowzel · 01/04/2024 09:55

No, she gets paid 15 pounds an hour and so i don't tip.

I don't think that's particularly extravagant these days, that's what I pay. I dont think that precludes a nice gesture every so often either.

ByUmberViewer · 02/04/2024 18:59

Yeah I did. I gave her a £100 bonus at xmas and a £50 bonus for Easter. I also give her £50 on her birthday.

ClemmyTine · 02/04/2024 19:00

I am a cleaner and don't get a tip at Easter. I did get an Easter egg once but it wasn't expected.

cstaff · 02/04/2024 19:04

I'm dying to know what made you think that she was expecting a bonus. I do at Xmas but that is it.

UmaniCaroline · 02/04/2024 19:12

Ours comes on a Monday so I paid her but told her not to come on Easter Monday.
Then I realised there are 2 bank holiday Mondays in May and I have set a precedent.
So I'm going to ask her if she can do different days for the May ones.
She will probably say no.

ehb102 · 02/04/2024 19:12

My cleaner gets a decent Easter bonus, but then she has been with me for a very long time and prioritises me as much as she can and I am grateful. She also very generously bought my family Easter eggs, a kindness I very much appreciate. My cleaner is a treasure and I want her to feel valued and appreciated.
