Can I trim my hedge today or

…will it annoy the neighbours? No nesting birds in the hedge btw.

I don’t want to annoy anyone, although the person jetwashing for 3 hours yesterday didn’t seem concerned about the noise they were making, I’m just aware people may have people over/have lunch plans etc.
Would it annoy you if your neighbour started hedge trimming now for around an hour?

It wouldn’t annoy me at all ! These jobs need to be done x

HappiestSleeping · 31/03/2024 10:58

Absolutely fine. It's not unfeasibly early, and it's what days off work are for.

50Poppy · 31/03/2024 11:02

If you were my neighbour, I wouldn't be annoyed!

dudsville · 31/03/2024 11:03

I like the sound of neighbours mowing their owns, it takes me back to childhood summers, so this is just an extension of that for me.

ImWatching · 31/03/2024 11:08

Great, thank you all 😊

Easter Sunday? Do we get no peace? Can you do it tomorrow?

I be annoyed as we get so little peace from these machines every weekend. Can we not have one day off!

Konfetka · 31/03/2024 11:12

I know this is not AIBU but power tools on a Sunday? YABU.

mitogoshi · 31/03/2024 11:13

Not before 11am I would say (as due to hour change people may be having a lie in until about then) but otherwise it's fine, no difference between today and other Sundays. I'd say an hour max of noise though, be thoughtful

Sunquest · 31/03/2024 11:13

Of course you can.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 31/03/2024 11:16

Of course you can. Middle of the day on a bank holiday weekend.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 31/03/2024 11:16

Not sure on a Sunday, especially Easter Sunday.

Can't beat the smell of freshly mown grass 🥰

Margo2023 · 31/03/2024 11:29

Go for it. I also love these sounds and the smells, it's like a nice reminder that the season has turned and we have all the light days ahead after a long Winter, enjoy!

Zebresia25 · 31/03/2024 11:34

I was wondering about this - not because of noise but wondered if I was likely to disturb nesting birds

scrumpledtitskin · 31/03/2024 11:39

Ooh, I thought I was too late because of the birds nesting, although I can't see any in my hedge 🤔

The consensus seems to be that it's still ok then?

NearlyBritishSummertimeYay · 31/03/2024 11:46

Yesterday was Saturday, not the same as Easter Sunday at all.

it wouldn't bother me today, but the chances of it pussing off some of your neighbours is pretty high. Loads of people host on Easter Sunday.

i think it would be extremely inconsiderate.

youre getting biased answers because I expect most people hosting today are too busy to be scrolling through Mumsnet!!

do something else today & trim the hedge another day!

Nannyfannybanny · 31/03/2024 11:49

Go for it. I wish my bloody neighbours would cut back the hedges, trees, shading and coming over into my garden. Unfortunately most of the trees 60ft high now aren't on our side!

OwlCityisthemostunderrated · 31/03/2024 11:52

Go for it. It’s likely to take less than an hour. If you leave it another week there is more chance of affecting birds, and more chance of rain.

HelpMeGetThrough · 31/03/2024 11:55

Do it. If I wasn't going out this afternoon, I'd be firing up the angle grinder.

Things need to be done, when you have the time.

I saw this before I headed outside. You will be pleased to hear I decided to manually tackle a huge shrub instead and just used loppers and a saw. My hedge will wait.

However, one neighbour started up an angle grinder shortly after I got outside, another one started up their lawn mower -both still going- and I can hear someone in the next street is also mowing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lots of people use long weekends to get jobs done. Plus it's not raining yet for a change.

WingBingo · 31/03/2024 12:10

maybe you live near me as I pressure washed part of the garden yesterday, took a while.

when is it less annoying to tackle such a task? I don’t want to be that annoying neighbour, but it needs to be done.

Give it a minute. It's forecast to start in about 50 minutes 🤦‍♂️

shoppingshamed · 31/03/2024 12:12

Did you mean to post this on your streets WhatsApp group? How do we know what your neighbours wwoukd think 😂
