So me and partner never get a day off together.
Today we are both off
Had plans for a nice day just in pjs all day
Nice roast ,Easter eggs,films etc
Last night his niece (who is 12) said we are coming over tomorrow (niece ,his sister and her partner )
They don't just stay for 10 mins either ,they will be here hours.
Not even a "do you mind if we pop over "
We couldn't say we were out as everywhere is closed
We not gonna be getting a roast till after 6pm now

Tell them you'll be busy in the bedroom and wont be available to host! 😉

haveyoutriedturningitoffandonagain · 31/03/2024 09:28

Just say sorry you have plans

Love51 · 31/03/2024 09:28

Then you say "sorry, not convenient."
Yeah you might offend them but they aren't bothered about offending you. You don't have to give in to the whim of a badly brought up 12 year old, or anyone else.

Do her parents not buy Easter eggs?

FrenchandSaunders · 31/03/2024 09:29

Blimey I’m hate any agg but even I would say it’s not convenient!

Farahfawsett · 31/03/2024 09:29

Text them and say "Niece said you're planning on dropping by today, but please don't. It's the first day we've had off together in ages and we're having a sex marathon; none of you need to witness that!"

Then don't answer your door if they show up anyway.

Job done.

Icantbedoingwithit · 31/03/2024 09:29

I would be royally pissed off but would have made an excuse. No way would I be railroaded into hosting.

PotatoPudding · 31/03/2024 09:29

Plenty of places are open. Just say you have tickets to Alton Towers or you’ve booked a lunch at an expensive restaurant.

FrenchandSaunders · 31/03/2024 09:29

Restaurants and pubs are open. Tell them you’re going out for lunch.

Orangello · 31/03/2024 09:31

"Sorry we are already busy, but let's find another date that works."
See, easy.

Arrestedmanevolence · 31/03/2024 09:31

"sorry we are JUST going out, DC1 SHOES ON NOW! COME ON WE WILL BE LATE sorry we will have to catch up another time"

All bustle to the car, wait for others to leave for 10 and then back in the house.

exerciseshmexercise · 31/03/2024 09:32

Why didn't he just say "Sorry, we have plans, see you another time"?

SignoraVolpe · 31/03/2024 09:32

Don’t answer the door.
My dsil never answered the door if she didn’t want to see someone. In fact the last time I got into their house dn was 3. She’s 42 now!

Uoil · 31/03/2024 09:32

don’t lie and pretend to be out, just tell them directly, that you’re busy and it won’t be convienient so they can’t come around, next time please ask us next time you want to come around so you can check we’re free.

Gingerlygreen · 31/03/2024 09:37

I've never understood why people lie to stop visitors, just be honest, say that you haven't had a day off together for ages and you are having a quiet, pj day just the two of you.

This. Be honest or it will happen again

DH also tries to make crappy excuses that people can easily offer solutions to. I am not bothered if people think I am rude; I will happily say something is not my cup of tea, out of budget, too boring, etc.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 31/03/2024 09:42

A 12 yr old determines what you’re doing today? Just say you’re too tired for company, so it’s a big fat no!

PotatoPudding · 31/03/2024 09:44

Does she assume you have an egg for her and she wants to collect?

determinedtomakethiswork · 31/03/2024 09:44

I think she's coming over for her Easter egg!

sleekcat · 31/03/2024 09:46

Lots of places are open. Lots of people just like going for nice walks etc. I would definitely not be up for these uninvited visitors!

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 31/03/2024 09:46

Fgs, just say no

We are having a day to ourselves let's make it another time.

WandaWonder · 31/03/2024 09:47

So you were pre warned but said nothing?

HesterPrincess · 31/03/2024 09:48

Family whatsapp - "Happy Easter everyone. We had a dodgy takeout last night so it was either that or we've got a bug, and have been up all night being sick, so are staying in bed today to try and get some sleep". And don't forget the row of sad face emojis.

DrJoanAllenby · 31/03/2024 09:49

Why can't you say no? Will the sky fall down? Will they never speak to you again?

It's your day off and you have plans to spend it together just the two of you.

You don't have to tell them that but you do have to have the right to say NO.

I am now picturing two unhappy jellyfish sitting on a sofa whilst the niece and family are in your home for hours!

How do you get through life if you can't stand up for yourself?

this, basically.. be as direct as they have been. Don't let them ruin your plans
