Has anyone made these?

Best use of all the chocolate hanging around according to my (teen) DCs!
They're going to make a "shed load" of these tomorrow apparently 😁

What's the best for the nest material -
Krispies
Cornflakes
Shredders

These chocolate cornflake cakes are a favourite of kids the whole year round, and here they're given an Easter nest twist. Big kids love them too...

Shredded wheat was always used in the recipes I’ve seen for chocolate nests, cornflakes are tastier though.

Hermittrismegistus · 30/03/2024 22:25

I use shredded wheat and milk chocolate. No need for butter or syrup.

chattyness · 30/03/2024 22:34

I prefer cornflakes, can't stand shredded wheat

The butter and syrup make them nice and gooey, just chocolate they set hard, I prefer the former.

youngestisapsycho · 30/03/2024 22:37

Oh yes, def need some butter and syrup in the mix!

Whatwouldnanado · 30/03/2024 22:39

Butter syrup and cornflakes (we got a box in M&S for 75p)

Soapboxqueen · 30/03/2024 22:39

Shredded wheat and milk chocolate.

I don't add butter or syrup.

Shredded cardboard wheat is horrible.
One year DD received a ridiculous number of Easter eggs, so I decided to melt some Cadburys eggs to make cornflake cakes. I ended up throwing it all in the bin. I have no idea what is in Cadburys "milk chocolate", but it didn't melt properly.

It was disgusting.

When kids were little, they liked rice krispies.
Now they're older and make them themselves, they prefer cornflakes.
We've never actually tried shreddies as don't have them in.

We used shredded wheat this year - melted with butter, chocolate, syrup and marshmallows (a waitrose recipe). Haven't yet tried one....

SpringOfContentment · 31/03/2024 07:54

Rice krispies - with melted marsbars as the glue. Much softer than chocolate as the glue.

ShiftySquirrel · 31/03/2024 08:02

We always make rice crispy cakes.
Just rice Krispies and galaxy chocolate melted together nothing else. Mini eggs on top.

Ime so long as you use plenty of chocolate the cooling down sticks them together just fine.
