Why don't we leave carrots out for the Easter Bunny?

If Rudolph gets left some, surely The Easter Bunny should too? 😂

The Easter bunny being the deliverer of eggs has only become a thing (in some households) since social media.

Not really. Children looking for eggs left by the "Easter Hare" goes back centuries in Germany.

Bunny's been around a while

Why don't we leave carrots out for the Easter Bunny?

Easter bunnying since at least 1984.
We hadn't even got the Sinclair Spectrum then.

Hungry Horace goes skiing 😁
It was mainly played on the B&W portable TV though.

Not true at all!

There was no social media in the early 1980s and the Easter Bunny was definitely the ones bringing our eggs and hiding them.

Never was for us. Father Christmas and all the leaving of mince pies etc but when we had Easter egg hunts there was no pretence of it being a bunny.

I'd not even really heard of the Easter bunny until I was an adult.

Even now I don't think it's anywhere near as standard as Father Christmas. Which answers OP's question

VenusClapTrap · 30/03/2024 23:05

When I was a child (70s, 80s) we just got given an Easter egg at breakfasr time. Just one each. Very low key. No bunnies or anything - although we did make Easter bonnets for a parade at Brownies.

One year I happened to be staying at my aunt & uncle’s house, and woke up to find an egg, a book (about Jesus) and some small toys had appeared at the bottom of my bed. Cousin was shouting “The Easter Bunny has been!” This was a revelation. I had never heard of this before.

I went home and told my mum they had the Easter Bunny visit and why didn’t we? She just rolled her eyes.

mollyfolk · 30/03/2024 23:07

Because the Easter bunny is actually a hare and hare’s eat grass shoots. I had a conversation with my 8 year old about this today 🤣

Quitelikeacatslife · 30/03/2024 23:10

Surely the best bit of Easter is that although there are themes and traditions, they are not set in stone and you can adapt them to what you want to do. Keep the pressure off I say

1daughterand3sons · 30/03/2024 23:13

I used to leave carrots out for the Easter bunny when DD 17 was little and we used to decorate for Easter just like we did for Christmas. We had a Easter tree too.
I haven't done it with the little one who are 6,2 and 1.

Hellocatshome · 30/03/2024 21:01

Because Easter hasn't yet turned into the absolute farce that Christmas has. If we start leaving carrots out for the bunny where will it end?

My dd has left a note for the Easter Bunny asking if he comes to our house first or her friend's house opposite.

She came into the supermarket to buy the Easter eggs with me, the blimmin nutter!

SevenSeasOfRhye · 30/03/2024 21:02

Carrots aren't very good for rabbits, too high in sugar.

I love how this answer's so sensible when we're talking about the Easter bunny 🤣

Why doesn't the Easter Bunny leave carrots for the children then? Instead of chocolate eggs. Bunnies don't lay eggs...

Bunnies don't lay carrots either though

let us not dwell on what round brown things they do naturally leave (Sorry)

The Easter bunny being the deliverer of eggs has only become a thing (in some households) since social media.

I worked on the advertising account of a 🇺🇸 megacorp in the 1980’s . They couldn’t believe that in the UK we didn’t ‘have’ the Easter Bunny, they kept showing us a peculiarly depressing ad with well scrubbed children chorusing ‘Hello Easter Bunny’ and suggesting that we ran it at Easter.

I suppose they have finally got their way.

( see Monty python & the Holy Grail for a better Bunny).

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 30/03/2024 23:24

Cause we dont do the Easter bunny.

Our kids come to Tescos with me a pick their egg. Other Easter eggs are gifts from relatives.

It hasn’t, the Easter bunny has been alive and well in some families from the late 70’s, mine included.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/03/2024 23:26

EB prefers green veg. Dandelion leaves or kale are bang on.

Caravaggiouch · 30/03/2024 23:28

I don’t think I know any kids who think the Easter bunny is real and not just their parents. Only Santa is real so he’s the only one we have to leave something out for.

StarDolphins · 30/03/2024 23:28

We go all out at Easter. We have matching Easter PJ’s while watching a cute bunny film. An Easter stocking shaped like a bunny. Easter Eve box with lots of bunny gifts then get all excited for the big fella (our bunny is male) coming. We leave carrots, lettuce & brocolli out & I leave a few bunny prints to show he’s been🐰I just wish they did Easter Panto.

My DD wanted to believe until she was 10. My 7 year old on the other hand got suspicious about it just because he saw the same easter eggs in the shop. I don't think he bought my explanation.

Easter is getting more commercialised where I am. I know a few people who do carrot for Easter bunny on special Easter bunny plate plus new PJs for the whole family. Personally buying and hiding Easter eggs is the most time I'm willing to invest in this.

bossybloss · 30/03/2024 21:04

Because then we would have Easter Eve boxes …. Sod that !!!!

These exist! Saw them in Asda this week and 3 friends have posted on instagram with Easter decorations all set up for tomorrow including these with PJs, treats colouring books and one even says ‘the Easter Bunny has been’

I am 100% re-evaluating these friendships

Bit presumptuous to assume he is male - does he identify as such?

You have one of these too. In our house, the big man gets mince pies and brandy but the reindeer get lichen, carefully collected from the woods.

I blame David Attenborough.

Well he’s called Jeremy so he’s male.

Easter pantos are a thing! A few different theatres near me have one running.
