Platelets and tiredness

Anyone been diagnosed with low platelets? What was the action plan from the GP? I’ve looked online but it seems to depend on the local authorities. Current levels are 100 so not sure if they will do much. I’m so tired it’s crazy and needing to nap every day

Not to scare you but I had low platelets and it turned out I have follicular lymphoma. Your GP needs to refer you to haematology. I'm fine but it needs checked out.

was that level just on a single sample- has it been repeated?

Im also trying to decipher and work out what to do about blood test results since the gp seems to do nothing other than text to tell me to book another test in a few weeks . My platelets are 203. What is your white blood count and neutrophils like? Mine are low. I have a white blood count of 2.8 and Neutrophils are 1.4. I am also very tired (but frequently am anyway).

It depends on your medical history really. Have you always had low platelets or were they normal range (between 140 - 450) and all of a sudden down to 100? Are you pregnant? It could be anything. You need to discuss with your doctor if and when a repeat sample is due and also if you need a referral to hematology.

Repeat sample is 79 so lower than a few weeks ago. Defo not pregnant, waiting for the GP to call tomorrow and what the plan is going to be.

All other blood results within normal range, I do have neck pain (maybe my glands are inflamed it’s hard to tell)

I had this, and needed a repeat sample. I had platlet clumping noted which meant the count was low, but it took another 2 retests in different tubes to get a sample that wasn't clumpy. Apparently its an antibody that reacts and causes clumping. It throws up now every time i have a blood test, we sigh and retest again. My GP has decided that it's always going to be an erroneous result with me, and given that all other parameters are normal we just leave it be.

Georgethecat1 · 05/04/2024 21:01

My blood clumps too and has to be in edta bottles as it’s a bit odd. The doctors have no idea why it does it. My platelet readings still come back low in different tubes 🤯

They are speaking to haematology for advice on what to do with me. The tiredness is killing me off / I might have to take some time from work as I’m not coping. Sleeping 12hrs a day and napping during the day on some days

They will refer you to haematology to try to get to the bottom of it. Are you bruising easily? If it gets very low they will tell you to go to a&e if you bang your head, or at least they did with DH.

Georgethecat1 · 07/04/2024 01:17

They haven’t referred me yet to haematology just written to them for advice on what to do next or if I need a referral.

They have said if I start bleeding / have night sweats or feel really unwell I need to get myself seen
