Move to New York suburbs?

Wondering if anyone has any experience of living within commuting distance of central NY? We have the option to move over there for 2-3 years from the north of England. I love the countryside and the coast, but also nice to be somewhere where there’s stuff going on - access to cafes, restaurants, sports facilities & an active community

If we move, DH’s employer will relocate us & pay rent, so we’d be able to afford a nice area. Any suggestions of where to look?

Tarrytown has direct train commute to city very family friendly, Long Island especially Bethpage , if they are willing to go luxury consider Connecticut also direct train routes . Brooklyn is nice , family orientated but maybe too built up , lots of activities but quite expensive.

Thanks SoonEnough, i’ll look into those - although Bethpage looks like it has the downside of industrial heavy metal poisoning…..!
