Having new washing machine in now.

Workman is brilliant. Came to talk to me in bed (I'm bed bound) even though my husband was around.

Has fixed a broken plug with new fuse. He's only here to deliver machine.

Is it done thing to tip? I would like to.

It's up to you, if you feel he went above and beyond . Personally I don't believe in tipping as employers should pay their staff a decent wage and staff should not have to rely on tips to earn a decent living .

Tip him. I'd give him at least a tenner and I'd also contact his employer and tell them how helpful and pleasant he was to deal with and what an excellent employee he is. Don't tell them he did a job he wasn't booked to do because that might get him into trouble.

I think refusing to tip because employers should pay a decent wage, when the guy has used his initiative and gone over and above is stingy.

Thank you everyone. We just didn't know etiquette.

Definitely going to contact employer. We don't get many workmen even acknowledging I exist!

I didn't say she shouldn't top this particular person . I was referring to tipping in general.
