Shit tip garden where to start

So I'm still trying to sort my shit out .. im thinking to do garden stuff today. But im. Not sure what to do.

Back garden wise needs a general tidy up . And weeding round the edges path way bits need sorting . I also need to cut the wood so I have proper boarders.

Front garden is pretty crap. I was using card to stop to many weeds growing. . Im thinking to clean all up out there . Remove all weeds etc that are in path bit.

I have bought some plants/flowers as well I don't know if I want to do the front or back. The skip bag at the front is putting me off.

Not sure where to start.

Sweep the front and weed the beds, cut the bits of wood to size and it will look so much better, then decide how you want to lay out the new plants

Scarletttulips · 30/03/2024 12:42

Wood cutting will take 15 mins - it’s not a big job at all.

Jet wash the front when the bags gone.

I have a pop up bag for weeds so easy to take to the tip or green bin.

that garden is not untidy!!

Just make a start. Once you’ve done a bit it’s very encouraging. It doesn’t look too bad, not too daunting to tackle. Unlike my one & a half acres much of which fights a constant battle with brambles & nettles. Just tackle one small area at once, that’s my method.

What’s the smallest job that will make the biggest difference? Start with that and then the motivation to carry on will be easier to come by.

Personally, I’d start with the front. Mostly because it’s smaller, little changes like weeding will be easier to see, you’ll be inspired to keep going every time you come home from work and see how nice it looks, and you’ll still have time to do the back garden before summer gets here.

I was thinking to do the front first . But more because people see the front more than the back.

I wanted to put the hanging planters out there . But im thinking they will probably get Stolen.

I think you have no idea what a shit tip garden looks like!

Nagado · 30/03/2024 12:59

Have any of your neighbours got stuff out the front? If theirs is ok, yours will probably be safe too.

And, if not, just doing some weeding, polishing any metal on your front door/washing down any pvc, getting rid of any rubbish etc will give you the motivation to do more.

Nobody’s garden is looking the best at present with all the constant rain we’ve had so don’t think it’s just you. Mine is a mud bath with puddles , we live on boggy ground high on the moors. Clean your flagstones off & do a bit of weeding,it will make such a difference. Hanging pots probably won’t get stolen, don’t buy expensive stone troughs if you’re worried about that. It’s surprising what a difference just inexpensive plastic tubs filled with colourful annuals can make. Check out places like Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargains , this time of year they often have inexpensive things. I bought three trays of pansies this week from Asda for £5. As you clear a patch put flowers in, that way weeds have less chance of recolonising the soil. An old gardening chap in our village once gave me the best piece of advice….never walk past a weed, just pull it up as you see it so it doesn’t spread, like buttercups, or scatter seed like dandelions are beggars for doing. It’s surprising just what a difference, little & often can do.

Finished for today . I bought to many flowers. And i think i may have planted then in a bad place . The front is north facing . It gets about an hour or 2 of sun. I also need to buy some gravel also I think the ones hanging on the fence might get stolen least its tidy for now.

That looks lovely, what about tying them down with a few cable ties ?

Wendysfriend · 30/03/2024 23:55

Thank you. I was thinking the same but dont know how I would fit the cable ties onto the planters. I have bent the hook round to make it harder to get them off . I don't think it will do much to be honest. I'm regretting putting plants into the ground . I think I should have just gravled it. then had big planters instead

Cable ties, you’ll put your hanger right by one of the verticals in the fence and use the tie to tie the two together then snip the end off

So do I put the cable tie round the hook on the planters and just pull really tight? I can't see where else I would put it .

Looking good!

If you want change your plan to gravel and big planters, it's not too late as you only just put the plants in yesterday, they won't have made any new growth and their root balls should still be intact.
You can just take them out of the ground and replant into the planters - good luck and look forward to seeing your progress!

And yes, cable ties - attach the long bit of the pot hook to the railing next to it, job's a good 'un!

Just place it round the vertical bit of planter and the fence and pull it tight.

Everytime you post about your shithole house, you provide pictures of a minimally untidy house.

Whats the psychology behind bigging up the shittiness of the property that isnt actually accurate?

My house has been a proper shithole in the past. And i have struggled to get it better. By me posting a before photos helps me kick my arse so then be it. Its not effecting you I'm anyway shape or form .

In the case of the garden photos. No it's not overly bad but it feels like it in My head. Again I have nlt done any harm to you .
