Selfish aholes burning more waste

I moved into my house 6 weeks ago and NDN seem to burn their waste rather than put it out for the binmen to collect.
Every single day for the past 3 weeks they have had a fire pit going with all sorts of waste being added to it from morning to evening. Even in the rain.
The earliest it has began is 6am on a lovely day so we couldn’t open windows or hang out washing all day.
DP has met them briefly and said hi (prior to the burning waste) but I have never seen them. They don’t appear to leave the house so I haven’t had an opportunity to ask if they could move it away from our garden (it’s close to our fence at the back and the smoke blows towards our house).
Im really getting fed up with the smell and the worry the fire will spread to our fences as it doesn’t seem like anyone is watching it while it’s alight.
Our house needs a lot of work so I’m desperately trying to air it out yet the house ends up smelling of smoke all day.
I’ve told DP we need to report them to the council as daily is very selfish and it means our children cannot play in the garden if it happens all summer. He’s worried about falling out with neighbours in a new house, understandably, but I think they are the ones who should be worried as they’re causing us and many other neighbours a nuisance when they could use their wheelie bins and recycle like the rest of us. They currently have one going for recycling, such a waste.
AIBU?

I think you need to go round and have a chat before you start complaining to the council. Opportunity to say hi and get them on side?

Try have a chat, do you know what it is they are burning, can't be tins etc. Is it paper, cat litter type stuff..... That stinks.

If its plastics I'd consider reporting? Should be able to tell by the colour of the smoke.

Report to the council. They know what they're doing, burning household waste is ridiculous. A bonfire in the middle of winter is different to burning things all day on sunny days.
