Easter Egg Strategy

Do you make your kids eat sensible amounts of chocolate or just let them have at it?

DH and I are in different camps.
As a kid Easter eggs we're ours to eat as and when we wanted and I would let our kids do the same. Christmas and Easter are the only times this sort of thing would be allowed. I don't see the harm in a twice a year event. They are sensible and wouldn't eat until they puked or anything. I know he'll start whining about too much sugar. They are 6 and 8.

I am the same as you. My kids are good at regulating their appetites though even with chocolate so I know they will eat a lot but not crazy amounts!

Ioverslept · 30/03/2024 07:12

We don't eat them in one go or let the children do it either, we make them last.

I let mine eat what they wanted, anything left over when they went back to school disappeared into the bin.
Plus I’d help them when not looking, so it would soon go!

I always let my DC eat whatever, whenever Christmas day and Easter Sunday.

They're adults now, fit and healthy, the chocolate overload didn't kill them!

OctogenarianDecathlete · 30/03/2024 07:15

We let them have at it but:
• After a proper breakfast
• They stop within an hour of tea, and they have to eat a proper tea
• They're each given a labelled container to store their opened chocolate for another day.
• They can only eat it at the dining table (it's a lounge diner in a small house, this isn't as draconian as it might sound, and I don't get chocolate smooshed into the sofa)

I also help out with any leftovers, I'm a great Mum like that

KalaMush · 30/03/2024 07:16

I'm with you, mine can eat theirs whenever they want. I have three DC and they don't scoff them immediately, but if they did it's up to them! They're all skinny and eat healthily most of the time.

Last yr my daughter ate as much as she wanted. Then vomited everywhere 🤣 this year we'll be pacing it!

RedLemonade · 30/03/2024 07:18

I let mine have a few initially (I get them lots of small eggs/chocolate bunnies etc) and then when they ask throughout the day I’m deliberately more inclined than usual to say “oh go on then”. But I still gatekeep and make sure they eat some decent food in between!

Leftover eggs get kept for weekend treats (with some dispatched by DH and me over time😁).

ColleenDonaghy · 30/03/2024 08:04

We ration it but in bigger quantities than normal treats. They're pretty good at regulating anyway.

There's still some forgotten Christmas chocolate in the back of the press so I look forward to finishing that off once the Easter chocolate is here Grin

Our half way house was as much as you want but as a dessert 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
