Mozzarella, pesto and tomato baguettes

And am obsessed.
Am very working class (and ADHD so not great at trying new things) and it's always seemed a posh sammy to me 😂

But I had half of one in a cafe and then made my own at home which was even better. Bloody lush.

Oh love that for you OP, great sandwich. You could have that same filling in a toasted panini if you fancied, so nice!

Yes I pop it in the airfryer to get it toasty and gooey.

The one in the cafe seemed to have like a spicy tomatoish sauce. I wonder if there's anything similar to buy in stores as its really nice.

That is my favourite sandwich ever. Haven't had it in ages though.

Yourethebeerthief · 29/03/2024 21:52

I'd add basil leaves to it and have it as a panini with a bowl of Heinz tomato soup to dip in 🥣 ❤️

ShowOfHands · 29/03/2024 21:54

I had a panini for lunch with the same filling. It's delicious.

Some sort of salsa maybe?

GreenMarigold · 29/03/2024 22:02

Ahh my favourite sandwich! Can be nice with chicken added too. Also my favourite combo for pasta.

Yourethebeerthief · 29/03/2024 22:06

I also make a tuna melt this way. Tuna mayo, both slices of bread spread with green pesto, fresh mozzarella, fresh tomato and basil leaves. Toast it in butter in the frying pan like an American grilled cheese.

Mumaway · 29/03/2024 22:11

I like it with a bit of rocket, nice and peppery. Maybe try sun-dried toms instead of fresh?

EmmaEmerald · 29/03/2024 22:11

Love this, also like to add basil.

Red pesto maybe?

Agree, bloody amazing sandwich filling, especially when the cheese is meltedy!

Yeah I’d just have a look for a chilli tomato chutney in the condiments section. Great combo btw! I always forget how good it is until I get one in a cafe a so don’t like the sound of anything else. Very underrated.

I wondered this too. We sometimes buy a jar of chilli red pesto when we’ve got a busy week planned and it’s far nicer than the usual green kind.

Morrisons do a piquante ketchup that is outstandingly good

It's almost if the Caprese sandwich doesn't already exist.

Nor manners clearly.

I have not had this in so long. Just put it on our office lunch chat to remind us for next week :)

If you do it as a toastie, add a thin layer of mayo to the top, outside layer of bread and some cheese. 6 mins in the airfryer gives it the modt amazing soft crunch. We liken it to a Costa toastie.

Dustyblue · 30/03/2024 03:16

That's a brilliant sandwich OP. I make the same but with sliced red onion instead of pesto if I don't have any.

I think tastes continue to change throughout life. I'm 49 and only just decided I like figs, couldn't stand them before.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 30/03/2024 06:41

Love that with sun blushed tomatoes and fresh basil 🌿 🍅🥖

BoobyDazzler · 30/03/2024 06:44

Mozzarella is a completely pointless cheese unless it’s on pizza. It doesn’t taste of anything!

This makes no sense. Food isn't only about taste. It's about texture too.

If it's pointless on a sandwich because it has no taste (although it does have a taste, it's just mild) why isn't it pointless on the pizza too?

Dustyblue · 30/03/2024 07:18

BoobyDazzler · 30/03/2024 06:44

It does have a taste, just very mild one! The bland flavour & creamy texture of the mozzarella contrasts with the acidity & sweetness of the tomatoes, the pesto adds more flavour and freshness. On crunchy or toasted bread the combo is awesome.

It's a textural thing as well as a flavour carrier. Although I admit I don't get people eating a whole ball of it (or burrata for that matter) raw with a drizzle of balsamic. That's taking things too far.

Feelingblue77 · 30/03/2024 08:08

Oh I had this panini last week and loved it too! So delicious- had fresh basil on it as well.
