Best show for teen birthday

DD is soon to be 13 and I would like to take her to a show as part of her birthday gift this year .
She is interested in seeing Hamilton which feels quite different to what most of her friends have been to - mainly Wicked , lion king etc which perhaps seem younger choices. I haven't seen any of them as we find theatre trips are so expensive ( probably involves a night away to most decent theatres)
Is Hamilton likely to be a good choice ?

Or do I go for something completely different and do ABBA voyage with her instead? She has been keen on this for a while too.

Anyone done these or have other ideas for me !
It feels like a bigger decision as we can't afford to do both ( and what she would probably really love is Taylor Swift tickets !)

Stranger things. I have bought tickets for £75 with a slight restricted view to one corner of the stage so basically half price!

Thanks @rewilded I will take a look !
We haven't ever watched the series but I know some of her friends are big fans.

DS and I absolutely loved Hamilton when he was that age. I would always recommend it and if you can book in advance, the boxes are amazing and not that expensive (around £60). Six is also a good shout.
DS also loved Les Mis.
Guys and Dolls immersive is also fabulous and a really unique experience.
DS now 15 won't go to the theatre with me any more. I miss it a lot!

Hamilton is fab! One of my favourites. It does help to have a basic understanding of American history before you go. I'd say if that's the one she wants to see then that should be the one you go with

GoldenOstrich · 29/03/2024 19:27

You should take her to the Abba voyage. I went to see it a year and a half ago, and I loved it so much, I wanted to go back as soon as it was finished. Also getting her tickets to see Taylor Swift is a good idea, Taylor Swift is my favourite singer.

Hamilton is fab and also touring. So you could do it for less if it's near you. Bristol is next I think.

Meredusoleil · 29/03/2024 19:31

I would recommend Six. Both my girls and I loved it!

Hamilton. DD loved it.

Hamilton is amazing - a totally iconic piece of theatre that people will still be talking about in 20 years' time.

Six

Mind mangler is hilarious if it’s still around.

BeaRF75 · 29/03/2024 19:55

Definitely Hamilton.

Hamilton is fab but you’ll both enjoy it more if you read the plot first - IMO it’s like watching Shakespeare, it is hard to follow the story if you come to it completely cold and if you know the plot you’ll get a lot more out of it.

I would also really recommend Six. It’s very different but equally good.

I really want to do this too ! Trouble is a couple of these events and it wipes out the holiday budget .
